The song ia about Roland , commander of the Rearguard of Emperor Charlemagne. In the song the Rearguard fights off an ambush by the Basques , vassals of the Moors/Muslim conquerors of Iberia. Roland fights off the ambush to his sacrifice. During the battle he blows his famous horn Oliphant to make the ambush known to the Frankish army . The sound of the horn is so devastating it literally melts enemies. The horn of Gondor (used by Boromir) and the horn of Helm Hammerhand are inspired by this story.

@@SirielleArt That's an interesting thought. I watched a KZbin video years ago and a young guy with brown hair and glasses walked down a hallway and was describing the Mosaic in great detail. I wanted to rewatch it and it's gone. I looked for days for anything anywhere on the web... And there is not one article of it not one photo of it not one video.....🤔
