Nice fish, try keeping the boat in gear and leave the reel in the holder. You can get a 200lbs tuna or marlin in the boat within 20 minutes max and you won’t kill yourself. You have a killer boat use it to your advantage. You only need to battle like that on a cattle boat.

Yes sir. Boat in gear and rod in holder until fish gets close to the boat. We take rod out of holder to finish and pretend we worked it all the way😃

What rods and reels were you using

Hi there! The top of the line trolling gear provided by Bight Sportfishing operation but I'm pretty sure they were the Phenix Axis rail rods 7'-6" length. Probably 3XH and 4XH models. The reels were definitely top of the line too, Penn International 30VISX and 50VISX. Incidentally, we caught all the fish on the 30.

Speaking of knees, go to a hardware store and get the super deluxe knee pads. Using the rail is easier on a big boat-this one has a low rail.

I'm not going to fish with him if he puts knee pads on :). You can still use the rail standing up on a boat like this, just have a little more angle. 😁

that kneeling down rail method is really bad for your knees if you keep it up there's a knee replacement in your future at best try hitting the gym instead

How's the rig? You crimp on? What size leader? How fast you run? 12-15 knots? I wanna run these on the east coast, outa shinnecock NY. The bigeyes like the dtx minow.

130lb leader works well. Skipper has tried 200lb but 130 seems to make these swim well and strong enough for these grade fish. 11-13 knots. Let me know if you find any for sale:). Good luck keep me posted.

Tied directly to the lure using San Diego knot. 3' leader length, 300lb barrel swivel tied, not crimped.

Hi Scott, thanks for leaving a comment. The boat is a very well maintained Parker 2520 with twin Yamaha 150s. We regularly make trips 100+ miles just to get to the banks but a lot of fishing is also within 40 miles off the beach.

I had a kozak 550 it’s an amazing airgun but i use exact 18gr ammunition and its perfect give it a shot and try it 👍🏼

I love watching these kind of videos. I got my son on his limits of bluefin on his very first overnight trip. My daughter asked me when was her turn so next year i'm taking her out on her first overnight tuna trip she will be 9 by then. Great job dad 💯

The Kozak FC is a masterpiece. I have one in .177, shooting 17mm CTC groups at 60 meters - JSB Beast 16.2 grain.
