If the “rule” in question doesn’t matter why enforce it. Coming down on people all the time for every little thing is going to destroy their self esteem. It’s funny because all the micromanaging dumb rule enforcing ppl look just like this chick. Sad and angry with themselves so they power trip on everyone

What if that intervention does not work, simply because students do not like the particular school subject , there is no support and students are really low? how do you change their mindset which has been with them for some years?

I love this concept, and I'm still trying to figure out creative consequences. It looks a little different in a middle school class where you only see them for 40 minutes and there is no recess or choice time, you barely get to touch on your material and they're gone. (I teach band). The marker example might lead me down a helpful path, but I'm open to ideas!

We need school jails for suspensions. Both parents working this will cause one of the parents to get fired for missing on such short notice but the authority does not even consider this nor do they care. Suspensions seem to be more about punishing the parents rather than the students. Heck the students enjoy this time off school.

What are some things that you’ve seen that can be implemented such as how can their core teachers give the kids work for the day in an efficient way…is there an app that can be used or a digital way? Is there a website this can be uploaded to?

Okay That's true to a point . However our schools are being flooded with so many Special Needs Students WITHOUT the support for both the student AND the Teacher . Another MAJOR problem is the PARENTS DO NOT BACK UP THE TEACHERS . Without consequences for outrageous behavior , teaching has increasingly become a nightmare

You didn't SOLVE THE PROBLEM. You just simply let the hooligan get away with the outrageous behavior! The title of the video is misleading also. You neglected to explain HOW TO MAKE IT BETTER! Not subscribing to your channel for sure. I have 7 years experience at substitute teaching and I very much would like to know how to FIX problems, not IGNORE them.

Great video! When I was a bus driver I did my best not to write kids up unless it was serious. I liked having control over my bus. The only time I really had to call someone to my bus or write someone up was major offenses. I did however talk frequently both with parents and educators which helped a LOT. If more drivers did that.

It’s hard. I was a bus driver I’ve seen drivers scream at kids daily, some even cussing at kids. It’s hard 75-90 kids on a bus of all ages. But these drivers probably shouldn’t have been drivers. Some are downright mean nasty people others are amazing people who just struggle and sometimes loose their temper. I cannot express how important bus drivers are being the first and last adult a child sees

I completely understand and agree with letting tier 2 & 3 kiddos vent in a private supervised space when needed. My question is how to manage identified students at the middle school level (6-8) who don’t use foul language, but make very inappropriate sounds on purpose to interrupt instruction. These are noises, vocalizations that adults may make in private, but most 11 & 12 year olds are oblivious to. How do you suggest a handling a tier 3, 6th grad e female in an inclusion classroom?

There's a young kid in my college class at the local CC. He has an alarm set on his phone at noon. Literally every single class, his alarm goes off in the middle of class. This has been going on for two and a half weeks. I frankly don't believe that the young kid doesn't know how to only set that alarm for specific days. He's just being super-inconsiderate, or he's doing it on purpose for attention. It's one thing to glance quickly at your phone while in lecture. It's quite another to repeatedly disrupt the class for nearly three weeks.

LOL! We are 'leaning into the behavior ' by leaving the profession or retiring early, ' We' can lean into it all we want , but with Admin afraid of the parents and the parents afraid of their own children or too lazy to actually parent. It's just too much to ask ... Teachers are expected to be perfect ALL the time . We are not. We are human too . WE ALSO went through the pandemic and the Trump insanity

Well spoken! The undignified way so many politicians speak to and about one another is a terrible, tragic example to children everywhere. Children are growing up thinking it is perfectly acceptable, Our country and world will be unable to communicate in the not-so-distant future, I believe, except by tapping on a phone or other electronic device. Thank you, Polly.

Suspensions and detentions I agree should be interventions and taking away recess tends to make over and under stimulated children act out more as well as taking that time away for social interaction. Sure there may be more severe cases where a student may be asked to stay for the whole recess. But those should be more severe consequences. Not a Everyday thing. If students just start at a wall in detention or suspension. Yeah it’s boring but they’re not learning anything

Polly, That sounds too much like the smart thing for the school systems to do. The school systems are still a little bit about doing things from the dumb side and control how the students in them react to it. - Dwight

It’s supposed to be a punishment. It’s supposed to suck… It’s also supposed to teach the kids something and give them skills to not end up there again. It can’t be a lounge where kids just get in trouble so they can go hang out with friends

Kids loved me subbing because I have kids two recesses a day (on top of some free time) kids learn through play. Children need that time to be able to function and learn boundaries and making friends and relationships. It’s just as important as academic learning. Making kids sit and work on worksheets all day I think does more harm then good

I work in a ECC daycare and we accept all children. We have a new student who does not speak English. It is the beginning of the school year and he has escaped out of the classroom, attacked the teachers and a student, knocked over a majority of the toys in the classroom. We need some guidance on how to support him while keeping everyone safe.

Couldn’t agree more! The problem is old crust and disgruntled administrators who never worked their way up into district office. Sometimes are a force to be reckoned with. They’re sort of stuck in their ways and more or less don’t want to deal with things. So they use suspension in or out of school as a means to not have to deal with problematic students.

Glad your hearts in it. I’ve seen ISS teachers who did have their hearts into it. But there was plenty more who were more or less there because they needed a job. Their idea of ISS was watching movies on their computer or reading the paper and ISS was a holding tank for old disgruntled administrators who didn’t want to deal with the students

If only more schools adapted this. I worked in a Jr High where everything was ISS or OSS. If you got in trouble for running in the halls. ISS…. Said a cuss word at lunch ISS. Didn’t complete work as assigned. ISS…. It was abused and abused until it didn’t mean anything and kids basically went in there to sit or play on their phones or do whatever. The ISS teacher are more of a babysitter then a teacher. It was very disappointing to see it ran this way because I’ve worked at other schools that had much more effective systems
@missdonna9896
@missdonna9896 2 ай бұрын
It really needs to stop being abused as a means to sort of out of sight out of mind students administrators and teachers don’t want to deal with. If more schools followed your program there would be far less kids in ISS. Even having more then one ISS room because there’s so many students is outrageous to me. It’s not helping the kids and it’s not helping the school overall. Especially when ISS is a reward to some students because they would rather sit in there then be in class
