I too also have craft smart paint. I still have trouble with painting , because of how thin the color is sometimes and how quickly the color value fades 🥲.

@@Onlysugar-x3l 🥲 I know exactly how you feel. It's just layers upon layers. I did hear that mixing in cornstarch to the paint helps thicken it and give it an oil paint feel but I haven't had the best of luck with that method. 😅 Thank you for watching and commenting! 🙂♥️

this turned out so pretty!! i really like the idea of flicking water onto the reflection while it's drying; that's something i need to try out! i also really like how much you let the sound of the pen on the paper come through in the audio, it's such a nice sound!

Ahhhh thank you thank you!! 😄❤ I hope the method works out for you! There's another method that I've heard works and it involves putting salt onto the still wet watercolor. It gives the painting a more intense water ripple/crystalization(?) look. The only reason I haven't tried is because I dreaded the mess I might make haha 😆 I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the pen sounds! ❤

sorry for the late reply!! i know that making art in silence is probably more effective, but i always try to have music or a video playing in the background because it helps tune out my thoughts and just settle into the creating mindset, if that makes sense! also the piece is amazing! i really love seeing what you've made each week :)

i love the linework you can get with that pen!! i've never seen anything like it before, and i totally get what you meant by the rooftop texture being your favorite part, it looks so fun! that kind of pen looks like it would go really well with grayscale drawings too :)

ahh it turned out amazing!! i've never seen that window technique before, but i really need to try it out now! i really love how you use your brush, if that makes sense; sometimes i struggle with using too much water or pigment when i use watercolors, but all of your strokes seem so intentional and still allow for some looseness :)

Ahhh thank you~ ☺️ A huge item that helps me adjust the water to paint ratio on the brush, is to use a paper towel or an old towel (in my case). That way whenever you feel that you have a bit too much water or paint on your brush you can just dab it on the towel first. It's a learning process but I definitely wouldn't be able to paint as easily if it wasn't for the towel/paper towel. I hope this helps and thank you again! ☺️❤️❤️

I use a Hongdian M2 Black Forest Mini with an extra fine nib and the ink is Noodler's Black Waterproof Fountain Pen Ink. ❤

i love how you painted the lighting in this!! what's your process while deciding where to place paint?

Ahhhh thank you so much!! 😄 My process is mainly focusing on large areas that I know I can apply a general one color wash for to start off with. So for this painting, the background was a good area to apply the dark blue/black paint without worrying about being precise. And for the lighting I wanted to make sure to not paint the light source (the light bulbs in the food stall) itself so the white of the paper would be the brightest and help add the feeling of a rainy night scene. Long comment but I essentially work large areas to small this way I don't become so overwhelmed from the start. I hope this makes sense and that it's helps you on your watercolor journey! 😄❤

I've been struggling with watercolor because its unpredictable and as a newcomer to it, I don't really "get" how to use it. I am a perfectionist and want to control everything, every shadow, every shade and with watercolor you can't really do that. So, I've been struggling to let go and just paint with it stress free. This video, just by the title, helped me realize that it doesn't have to be perfect and can just be for fun. And that there are no rules and that you can do things differently than how they are in the reference. I'm going to try to paint soon, I have hope I will be able to let go and have fun and experiment. Thank you!

It's probably because it's kind of a trend for artists to be using fountain pens. Although, in terms of dip pens I've only seen them sold as calligraphy pens instead of being called dip pens. I guess it depends on the store. 🙂

I understand how you feel, maybe if you start drawing in a small area on your sketchbook (something simple) it will make you want to draw more. That's what I usually tend to do when I'm not in the mood to draw. 😁 That or I'll go watch other artist's sketchbooks or live drawings. Cheering you on! ☺️

Good news though, is that if you're able recognize where you've messed up on your drawings then that means you're already on the road to improvement. It takes patience and persistence but I believe you will overcome your struggles. And remember not to be too hard on yourself! ❤️
