Ok this video is old but still helps me out, I just bought a new amp waiting the 6 weeks for delivery, it looks like the chips like to blow, is this true? how easy is to blow these chips? the good part is that they easy to replace.
@peteantonio1601Ай бұрын
I know this is an old video but I put a bit on one of these amps, I see too many chips out here, this makes me think this amp has a very high failure rate, i'm rethinking my choices, thanks,

These are great amps and I have not had a failure in years now with the 2 that I own. I would purchase again. Failure rate is pretty low, actually. Subscribe to the groups.io reflector to get a better feel of things. Good luck.

Do not try to get this alternator out from the bottom like some videos say maybe its just the 2003 but we can not fit it out the bottom and trying to get condenser loose is a bitch better to just do it the right way like hes doing here
@JayUJay3 ай бұрын
Yeah this was a big project, the new owner of the Contest Caddy had to replace it again! I think the oil filler is right above the alternator and if you miss and oil goes past that filler, it does not help with the alternator longevity.

I believe the LDMOS failure is due to the fact it needs to be soldered to the heat riser, I have never seen an LDMOS not soldered to the copper heat spreader. there needs to be a robust electrical connection and the heat transfer is much better if the device is soldered. Looks to me the failures are due to Over Heating. LDMOS are very robust , but when over heated they fail quicklty..
@JayUJay8 ай бұрын
Hello PaulZ, Naw they are fine and the failures were accountable for various reasons. This was 5 years ago and the 2 amps that I have are working great with heavy use, although I try and keep them around 1KW or less, normally. Newer versions of this amp are not soldered but they changed the method they are dissipating heat to the pallat.
@paulziminskin2ghr2828 ай бұрын
@@JayUJay Sorry I do disagree I have worked with many and all the failures were due to not being soldered LDMOS do not fail when shorted or opened load when operating they are very robust, You will read the perferred method is soldering, I speaking from experience.. No hard feelings and good luck and best of 73

Thanks for posting this. I found it helpful. My G-800 about one year old, indicator started jumping around. From watching your video I suspected the POT in the motor assembly. Bench testing, I realized the rotor was working fine, just the indicator was jumpy. I suspected dust or mico-debris in the POT. Rather than remove the POT to disassemble or replace, I drilled a small hole in the POT cover without removing it (think Dremel with small bit) and sprayed some electronic cleaner in the hole. After a few cycles of rotation the jumpy needle fixed. I'll put it back up on tower and keep fingers crossed.
@JayUJay3 ай бұрын
Super solution.... This rotor has never been re-assembled! It is still in the same condition at the end of this video! All of my rotors now are tail-twisters by hy-gain and I have a pile of parts (Now that MFJ has limited supply) Let us know how it works out for you!

I own one of these and it's a super fun gun when it works. But it's crazy picky about ammo. Some ammo, it will run flawless and some ammo it will FTE every round. Crazy.
@JayUJay11 ай бұрын
That does seem to be the theme with this thing.... Funny how some .22 eat anything and there are some that are very picky.
@mbeacom2110 ай бұрын
@@JayUJay Man I wish I had that experience. I"ve owned a few semi auto .22s and they were all somewhat picky. I've never seen a .22 semi pistol that would "eat anything". having said that, this PK22 is worse than most, but still, .22s just seems to be the most finicky. I have always assumed it's because .22 ammo is so inconsistent in power, build quality, materials, etc. Combined with that fact that most of the models out there are relatively cheap.

I found the issue.. the mag does not sit tight when Inserted. So loosely seated the mag locks into place but falls to low for the receiver to grab the next round. I didn't know unto watching your video and Inserted the mag without the receiver. Doing so gave me visual access and that is what my analysis is.
