best album of all time, objectively. Only album that really deserved the pulitzer

Funny. I was thinking about how Winston’s win pissed ppl off because he won and comparing his win to Kendrick’s this morning before your video popped up. 😂 I live in NYC where Winton has worked decades to keep jazz in the forefront to the benefit of ALL musicians. Kendrick deserved the award because he created art. Calling all of these awards “consolation prizes” detracts from the seriousness of all the jazz and hip hop artists you mentioned. It’s better to say that “they finally were recognized for their contributions and body of work”. Otherwise, you ARE making it sound like a charity (or worse-like an engraved watch someone gets when they retire).
@satisfyingshortsclips55303 күн бұрын
if you think kendrick got that prize for charity you have never listened to that album all the way and then listened to it backwards again.Or it just went over your head and in that case you are not the one to say who should and shouldn't get prizes anywhere.

The genius of DAMN being an album that tells 2 different stories depending on the order of the songs is phenomenal . That is terrific writing in itself. Then, there is the context and flow of the stories combined with great music. It is a great piece if work. It is a great literary piece when considered fully. So was TPAB of course, but DAMN's reversibility is it's genius.
@derpmcgerp80622 күн бұрын
@TheNormanInvasion it IS a literary piece. That's what music is best at. Every single song on the album has a purpose and is an important piece of the puzzle. The story is a complete circle. There are a LOT of lyrics that can hold one meaning when played in one order that hold a completely different meaning when played in the other order. Kendrick strikes a good balance between vague enough lyrics while still having it be dense with content. It's not like any other hip-hop album, despite it deceptively (and intentionally) sounding like it is. And Kendrick Lamar is not just "a black guy". I could understand that argument if it was ANYBODY else winning it, but genuinely, Kenny's albums are more creative and inspired than the vast majority of musical artists. You can even consider a decent chunk of TPAB and DAMN to not even be rap in the first place. The channels "Digging The Greats" and "TennisThom" made some great videos explaining it better.

Then why did he win the Pulitzer in music and not literature?
@derpmcgerp806217 минут бұрын
@lylecohen1638 literature is one of the major reasons why the music was so great. Writing and music go hand-in-hand, especially when it comes to lyrically dense forms of music, such as hip-hop/rap

The only other two genres that have ever received this award were Classical and Jazz. FIRST musical artist in a genre OUTSIDE of Classical and Jazz. That's worth noting.

Song and playing is brilliant but I am worried that break-through in black metal scene would require totally black clothing and face paints. Now the clothing might be too colorful for satanic black metal... ...not funny? Let me try another joke on gangsta-rap...
