Hello Jaana, I have just found your videos, thank you for sharing, I’m enjoying your content 💗 I have been practising slower living for some time now, I live in the United Kingdom, where similar to the US, consumerism is a big deal! I use charity shops/thrift stores if I need clothes and am creative, so I often make gifts for family and friends. They always appreciate a handmade cake or jar of something 🌼

Hello from the USA! I really enjoyed this video. I am a recovering perfectionist too. What I have learned is that there is a fine line between excellence and perfection. And that done is better than perfect. Some things are worth making more effort for quality sake (ie: you are a writer) and some things just aren’t.

I love to read, sadly my vision is not good enough to read most physical books, though I have many and miss reading them. Therefore I appreciate my E- reader so I can make the print bigger. In the evening I also like to craft and practice art. I try not to doom scroll or waste time online in my evenings -I sometimes even just like to sit and think.

You are so right about everything you say in this video. Great ideas. I am also a reader and, like you, prefer a book in my hand. I have read "Rebecca" and couldn't put it down either - a great book. Best wishes for the winter season.

I agree with so much of what you share. I love reading books in the evening... especially poetry (which I also write). I also enjoy informal journaling and writing letters, which sadly has become something of a lost art. And I do agree with your suggestion to include a physical element of relaxation. For me that is more likely to be light stretching than yoga, and perhaps sitting with myself to help calm my mind. This evening I was involved with an online meetup that ran somewhat late, so while I was here I thought I'd listen to a bit of your wisdom, which now also serves as a remedy for runaway thoughts. Thank you.

I totally agree with everything you are saying here. In fact, my sister and I just had a conversation about this over the weekend. Here in the US, its hard not to feel driven because we live in a culture of (often empty) hyperproductivity. And now, a lot of us feel this angst about what may be coming on the political and economic front, and we feel pressure to get out agead of it (moving, saving, changing jobs, etc.). I wish I lived in a culture that embraced natural ebb and flow more. Your gorgeous scenery reminds me of a farm and inn owned by a Finnish family where I used to go Nordic skiing in northern Wisconsin! Thank you for sharing it!

Another lovely video - thank you so much. Perhaps the secret is to embrace what comes to us, especially things we cannot alter. I loved your idea at #4. I hadn't thought of little treats that can act as "lift" and a chance to try new things. I also like the idea of nourishing ourselves (many of which you mentioned). Fresh air, appreciation of the colours and structure of what we see outside, warming/nourishing food, twinking lights, rest and a project that gives us a creative outlet all helps. I also like to read books that are set in a similar season to the one I am experiencing. I am a new subscriber and am loving all your videos. Best wishes from Suffolk in England.

I am horrified by consumer culture in North America we are bombarded I bought a fixer upper house 2 yrs. ago and I have been very busy searching out 2nd hand so I can afford the important things luckily I have found so much on Facebook Marketplace from a big city to a small one centred around a lake in the Country. There is the inevitably of having to order on-line which I really try to put a lot of thought into. I luv your way of life and am very much inspired 😊❤

I am enjoying working through your previous videos. I am a firm believer in an attitude of gratitude and contentment and that seems to put a different perspective on most things. When we look at what we have already, as opposed to what we don't have, it seems to shift these emotions of resistance. I am lucky to love the autumn and winter months, but, again, perhaps, the secret is perspective. Everything is working to make us slow down and hunker down and take time for slower living - we should listen. We also have a rowan tree in the garden and I had heard about them being sacred and offering protection. Best wishes to you.

P.D Podrías ponerle traducción a tus vídeos?

Another great episode. Did you knit the cardigan you’re wearing? It’s a lovely design and I love the socks. I haven’t tried knitting color work yet, but you’ve inspired me to take a leap of faith and just do it. I’m a firm believer that exercise is good for the soul regardless of the weather…rain, snow, etc… i have 2 dogs and I find it interesting that your cat likes it outside so much. What is its name? Thank you for your preparation and thought behind each of your episodes.

You make so many good points. I enjoy many crafts…quilting, knitting, spinning yarn, weaving….and I allow my perfectionism is suck the joy right out of them. Many people think I am quite good at what I create and all I can see are the mistakes. I at least have the awareness that perfectionism is no longer serving me and I just want to experience joy in creating something from almost nothing. And…you’re so right that “done” is better than perfect. It is my desire to identify with being a “recovering” perfectionist. 😊 Thank you for your episode.

Watching this “cuddled up under my blankets”. 😌♥️✨🇨🇦 Beautiful video! Scenery is gorgeous. Just finished watching. Am thinking more + more these days about what you have put forward here. I think the ‘words’ in our human vocabulary are generally wrong or inappropriately used. For instance the word ‘lazy’. It’s very derogatory in our society and is usually linked to ‘productivity’ or a lack thereof. But if you talk about the need for ‘self care + rest’ you can feel the whole change in tone. It’s very interesting. We place a lot of societal importance on language - what we say + what we mean, but I think we need to question that. We ‘can’ direct this dialogue/self/societal talk. 🕊️

I am working on at least making slow parts of the day. I have a lot to do each day, but I can take time here and there through the day to enjoy a cup of hot tea, read a book, or knit. I did find that I had to practice thinking because I had been living a distracted life. My mind is not active when watching TV, listening to music, or on social media. I had to start with small blocks of time so that I could exercise my mind and slowly build up my thinking ability again. Thank you for sharing these things with us.

I agree with all you said! We have been trying to live frugally for many years, and it has worked very well for us. The only thing I would add is that while we are waiting to buy that thing that we think we need, we will research to find a brand that is good quality and shop around to find the best price before we buy it.

When I was growing up, everything I had was 2nd hand or a hand-me-down. My children are grown, I'm divorced (was married for 25 years). My home is paid for and I have $ in my retirement plans. And so, yes, I do spend money..but I don't go crazy. I buy quality items. I don't keep shoes/boots past 2 years or any clothes past 3 years. ..... (I've been driving the same car for 17 years tho😂...It is in good shape and keeps running....so I keep driving it👍)

Hello Dear One, i was captured by your comment regarding burnout. Fifteen years ago three of my coworkers were on medical leave for legitimate reasons. We had some temporary help. However, at that time, I was the most knowledgeable in the department, and was asked to do my job and two others. At the end of 3 months, i was toast! I have never truly recovered. I feel it helped foster some ADHD that I'm still trying to overcome. My productivity has never become what it once was. I thought I was the only one who had had this situation. The only thing I buy regularly are books, even if I work in a library. But when I do, I try to buy a book I really want, and I read it. Or, I buy seconhand books or ebooks because it is cheaper or less heavy. Even though I still have books to read... So yes books are a pleasure and an addiction. For others stuff, I often delay my purchases or I imagine the feeling of having already this stuff. And I analyse my feelings : does this stuff could make me happy when I'll have it ? Is it something I really need? If not I don't buy it 😊 Your videos are so calm and peaceful. Thank you ❤

Doing nothing is actually a goal. “Tomorrow I am going to do nothing, all day. That is my goal.” Do it, enjoy it. Then move on to the next goal. Doing nothing is useful, because it rejuvenates you, and you will look forward to completing your next task, refreshed.
