Thanks for watching! The theater is 19 feet deep x 10 feet wide with 8 foot ceilings. The office area is a desk at the back and that’s it, it’s under the projector, but there’s a nice open space in there too. If I removed the desk I could easily add a second row without being against the back wall. In fact for bigger groups I can bring a couple chairs down from the living room and set them up behind the theater seating with plenty of space.

Several months back, I tried to get into a K system. I got a second hand Strato C as well as a 6TB Terra server. I got it installed and setup, no issues. In fact, it is a super slick system. I can appreciate the value of simplicity. However, I ended up selling the system after a few weeks. Why? You hit on it in your video, and I had never considered it before I tried it: I have so many discs (Blu-ray and 4K) already, many of which were not available on K to upgrade to and others I already upgraded to 4K discs. I already own so many of my favorite movies in the highest quality possible on discs that it made no sense to me to pay to “import” them into the system by buying them again (even using the disc to digital service). I thought, “well I can just buy new movies that come out from now on on K.” But, there hasn’t been much worth buying coming out of Hollywood lately (my own opinion) and I got tired of only seeing a couple of titles on the K Home Screen repeating over and again. God forbid, if I somehow lost all my discs and had to start over, I’d totally go with Kaleidescape to rebuild, but for me I think it’s too late (unless they make some drastic changes to their business model). Great video!

Really really really big problem is most of the stuff I stream and it's compressed form not available on Kaleidoscope. It's really unfortunate the big time subscription streamers don't offer a lossless stream it's still freaking compressed. It's horrible horrible horrible. Most people don't have systems that can accommodate uncompressed streams so why bother and that sad. Netflix HBO etc often have wonderful things to watch and they were originally produced presumably without compression and then they transmitted to all their subscribers at a compressed form so no one ever ever ever gets to hear what they produced in all its glory and that's profoundly profoundly profoundly profoundly sad.

@av_nirvanaКүн бұрын
The system doesn’t require access to the internet except to purchase. If (big if, they have studios blessing) they go bust they won’t repossess the equipment and you have all your content stored locally until the hardware dies. If you buy a movie on K you can delete and download as often as you want/need. If you own a movie on disc there is disc to digital, prices starting at $5 to add it to your Kaleidescape library (some studios more). If you own a movie on K in HD and it is released in 4K you can upgrade for a small fee vs buying a new disc at full price (Se7en this morning was $4.92). If HDR or Atmos is added to a movie you own, you simply download an update. Lots of value points once you’ve bought into the ecosystem.

Everyone talks about what happens when Kaleidescape goes out of business, I'd be more concerned about what happens when my ripping solution is deemed illegal and they stops making discs. Studios want to eliminate discs - they're a hassle and an unnecessary expense. Kaleidescape is the option for the same quality delivered over the internet. They need to provide a secure space for holding the studios' intellectual property. They have the trust of the studios and the backing of the studios, whereas PLEX still operates in a gray area full of torrents and illegal rips. When you rip your media, you're defeating the included copy protection which is breaking the law whether you think it should be or not. It is illegal and PLEX and EMBY and Kodi and all the others could be shut down just like Zappiti was - on the lam from copyright infringement only to resurface as R_Volution. How long do you think they have?

Cost is now more tolerable with the Strato V to a point that I have really thought about it despite being a big Plex user. Storage is still ridiculous. Access to disc quality rentals for movies I don't want to own and sooner access to new releases is the biggest draw for me. However I have an issue being tied to just the one player that would be in my dedicated theater. With Plex I can watch on any device in the house plus almost every disc purchase comes with a digital code so on the go access when travelling especially for the kids is nice. I would have to double dip on many movies otherwise. These days ripping a disc to Plex takes very little time and effort. Disc arrives from Amazon, put it in my drive, let makeMKV rip it, come back in 45min, cut/paste to my Plex folder, done. Sometimes forced subs adds some extra time but that's it.
@ballstadtКүн бұрын
So the time to get a movie on your PLEX is, let's say 20 minutes looking for the best price of the disc. At least 4 hours for delivery (for Amazon same day if available). 45 minutes to rip it. Another few minutes to get back to the server and move it into the folder system, done. So let's say 6 hours - being generous. That seems like a lot of time, considering this morning I saw the Se7en 4K was available in Kaleidescape for an upgrade from HD price of $4.92, I clicked Upgrade and 11 minutes later it was ready to watch. The cost of storage includes much more than a hard drive. It's the cost of R&D and content security to prevent it from becoming a hacking source. Studios want to eliminate discs - they're a hassle and an unnecessary expense. Kaleidescape is the option for the same quality delivered over the internet. They need to provide a secure space for holding the studios' intellectual property. @@ballstadt You need to separate time waiting to watch the movie vs time personally spent getting movie into Plex. I already said one of the main draws of k-scape for me is not having to wait for new releases but that’s just me being impatient. In terms of my own time spent it’s <1 min to find the best price and just a few minutes spent putting the disc in, running makemkv, moving the file. I would say ~5min per movie total. Well, this is people are failing to understand or are refusing to admit, there is a format war going on right now, since most likely 216/2017, Netflix, Amazon prime, iTunes, and other various little streaming companies have been promoting and trying to kill the physical media, this device expensive and very niche is the odd man out. It is the DVHS/SVHS of its time, a product that technology will soon catch up to, but this device will not be relevant when technology does catch up, as DVHS was not relevant when DVDs, which were of lower resolution and quality were sold to the consumer at a very affordable price. It’s not that a lot of us don’t want this kind of technology, but it is for upper middle class and the wealthy, like the wall OLED used to be, and that two is gone, micro LED has been talked about for almost 14 years And that two is being surpassed by quantum.OLED. When people watch videos like this they can’t help, but be kind of annoyed, another device meant to take our tangible freedom of holding one or two copies as we would like to own in our hand, not just on a virtual device. There are certain movies that I have on laser disk that still sound better than the 4K master DTS five point ones that were released on certain movies, I love 4K but sometimes certain movies don’t have to look their best when they sound better. Without the choice of a physical media alternative From yesterday or today, a device like this, which certainly limit my options and a lot of people don’t like that options are being taken away, it may not be as popular as it used to be, but people still want a physical, tangible item in their hand, not just everything in a box, some of us like to work, some of us find it Amusing to do tasks to keep ourselves busy, everything being put in one simple place all the time can bore the hell out of us, some of us love the rush of doing something new and creative, even if it means burning discs or making cassette copies of vinyl or putting everything on one drive Ourselves without relying on a service to make it too simple. A lot of people just want more options. that’s why videos like this annoy a lot of us most of the time, has nothing to do with this device. It has everything to do with the principal of alternatives.

That’s a good point about being able to rent a title and get the full DVD quality experience. It’s been so long since I actually went and rented a DVD that I’ve no idea what the comparative cost was, but some new titles seem to not be much less to rent than to buy and cheaper rental would be good (like we don’t always want cheaper of course). I have found that I very rarely look at any of my DVD titles now as the convenience of streaming wins out. This seems like a good option. The features you mentioned for controlling other items based on data triggers in the movie is very cool as well. Still… the cost… I’m living in Prague and apparently their service is not offered here. I watch a lot of stuff using a VPN to the UK because I still have accounts there. I wonder if this would work through a VPN?
@ballstadtКүн бұрын
There are folks using a VPN, and you'd also need to use a virtual credit card with an address in the same region as the Kaleidescape store you're using. I'd also add that they just announced today that Priscilla Morgan was promoted from COO to President and COO. She's responsible for coming in and adding NEON and several more studios this year, as well as the deal with commercial cinemas to install Kaleidescapes for screening catalog titles in theaters. Her expertise is in her connections and her ability to bring more studios to the platform, and also to expand the availability into more geographic regions.

I own A Stratos V: and I'll explain as carefully and kindly big glaring issues. Its pretty much useless to * younger generation users; when they come requesting the hundreds to thousands of titles not even found on K. Imagine how embarrassing that is when the people you entertain doesn't even want the common titles found on K. The movies on K you would already have ripped and ready to play. I spent, more than K complete ecosystem on titles not found on in. Doesn't replace anime titles, not boutique" as you claim, which is typically what someone defends K with. I'll explain this very factual. There is 52,000 blu ray titles. K ONLY has 9000 blu ray titles from those titles. I dont need to bore you with the titles. Just expand the mind, be about movies and not just the hardware. Bigger world, younger and don't like what's just cookie cutter titles on K. Plus you need to re buy the titles you already own. Seeing the movies early, overrated, on titles that are common, but also titles no US bound, territories. I ENJOY FRENCH FILMS, military movies, modern ones anime and the endless titles. Some coating 150$ each and not found on K. Have a 20 something come over and ask for a title watch how It's not on K. Just try it yourself. Find a common gundam title. U cant...
@SkylakeProCinemaКүн бұрын
I'll add that K is for people not really serious about movies. They wouldn't find what they need when it comes to that. It's like PC valve steam but with less titles. No offense. I bought into this too, but I won't sit around and promote it to people when I'm about being as truthful about things in my life. No way. K SPACE is for a older generation of user, not too serious about titles, and looking to have as less work as possible. K space limitation is on their end not mine. So as a better host, I need to get deep and curated titles not found there and use a modded Dune player with almost K space experience. If you find doing the extra work too much, that's on you. I rather have a more much more curated experience one not found even on K Space. Full 7.1 unmixed Anime titles with better sound than most movies that released to your common Playlists since 2011 now. That's a lot or movies not found on K. K space will only age like milk if it doesn't step up. Licenses are hard trust me even Sony has issues. So good luck

I cannot disagree with those that say the price of the hardware alone, it is too expensive. I do wish that entry fee was a one time expense and future expenses for additional or replacement hardware could be offset by service fees. Try to license something like Fathom releases while they are in theaters, downloadable trailers and pre shows that can be preconfigured. I do think for the money spent the Movie store needs to be more current. I did watch Godzilla Minus One on disc and it still resides on my server. I’d rather have it in Kaleidescape. What others may be missing is everything else Kaleidescape brings. The upkeep of software and back end that monitors your system. Getting the best possible release (in most cases) before disc. Video and audio quality that is superior to disc. Integration with home control systems. The overall experience is something worth saving for. It can be the cherry on top of a completed home theater system.

A few more thoughts on it: I think its not the problem, that is expensive. The problem is, that its dramatically expensive. If we would talk about hardware cost of 2...3000 bucks it would be fine. But if you set it up well, you end up beyond 10000 right? The 2nd issue is availability. In Germany e.g. Its not. And number 3: It doesnt feature alternsaive language tracks. Easily spoken, if the hardware cost would be around 3000 dollar or Euro, all produced lamguages would be in and it would be available globally... Then it would be a total different story
@av_nirvanaКүн бұрын
Availability is a fair point, it Kaleidescape must license with studios for every country so it doesn’t necessarily make sense to go global immediately. But they’re doing everything legally and with permission. The Kaleidescape absolutely has alternate language tracks when available. When it comes to the price, everyone needs to decide for themselves what they’re willing to invest in, and if they’d rather invest money or time and effort. But when you’re paying $10k for a projector, $5k for a screen, $20k or more in speakers, amps and subs, why would you skimp on the source? If you bought a Ferrari would you put an 87 octane ethanol blend into the gas tank?

Plenty of time before the remote 3 arrives to get things set up. It looks like the idea of listening to a device status to determine what to do with other devices is a powerful feature. The room also has main lights and other lights (looked like a Phillips controller on the wall with various hues, coloured strips up the sides like you have, etc, so there's plenty of scope for some nice transitions and features being built in. With the mass of amplifiers in there the previous owner had been turning the room on from the main fuse box when he wanted to use it rather than having a constant power draw - I think I should be able to come up with a more elegant (and less inconvenient) solution using HA.

@av_nirvana There is a huge percentage of buyers who will always love and understand the difference between 3 dimensional and 2 dimensional photography a simple yet so entertaining . Tastes are different and companies cannot decide on that. Prices cannot be lowered by dropping 3d. Learn from benq

You’ll need to better define “huge percentage” because by basic math it is a small percentage compared to 2D disc sales, and it’s not really close. In essence, while 3D Blu-ray offers a unique viewing experience, the limited content, higher cost, and adoption challenges compared to 2D Blu-ray likely contribute to its lower sales and market share. While 3D discs initially saw some sales growth, their popularity has waned, and 2D remains the dominant format.

@av_nirvana 2d contents are more than 3d but both are completely different. So 3d in numbers will always remain small as 3d films are itself less . The 3d format .is deliberately being wiped out by a number of companies in oder to promote 4k which again is 2d . They wont succeed as number of 3d viewers r still there across the globe. Even 4k blue Ray's r expensive so why blame 3d.

Theater looks awesome Travis. I would still love to hear those speakers. I'll try reaching out to them again up here in Boston. Thanks for your help with my own theater, and I'll preemptively thank you for the help with my remote 3 when it comes in LOL.👍

Why would anyone want a DAC and analog audio board in a media disc playback device? The multichannel audio is inferior to the 2 channel analog board. Why not get a Sony UBP-X800M2 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player and Onkyo or Denon Marantz AVR with HDMI and DSF / DSD multichannel playback?
@ts66407 күн бұрын
Analog outputs are primarily beneficial for SACD playback in the event you are not happy with the DAC in your AVR. I don’t see much benefit at all on the video side considering how codecs employing height speaker configurations completely dominate the current market

In my case I'm using the onboard deck of my Oppo 205 and going directly to my MCA 50 powering my home theater speakers. That's literally all I'm using and the movie experience is excellent!

@Hemicon I understand what you mean about price but there’s no way they (K) could mass produce this quality of device for this money when top end 4K players cost $1000+ , take as an example , JVC, EPSOM, MADVR etc, costs from $5000 up to the sky. Trust me I doubt they want them to fly off the shelves if it costs quality. Do you need this , prob not , do you want one, yes , should you buy a V at 4, 000 oh yes……

115" wide, so it's 124" diagonally? It looks bigger
@av_nirvana10 күн бұрын
Correct, 124” diagonal at 2.40:1. Seating distance is on the closer side and being wall to wall also makes it appear larger.

Thanks for the breakdown! Could you help me with something unrelated: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
@av_nirvana10 күн бұрын
You need to use the seed phrase man woman camera tv and then transfer it all into Skiddidly Moogbender Tushy. That will give you full access to it via the Persnickety app where you can then turn it into Kerfuffle Chops which will age into Absolutely Nothing, because we all understand that all of this Zero Value is a Pyramid scheme tied to Worthless Scams. Hope that helps!

Very nice set up... The art panels did you say there accostics fabric?
@av_nirvana11 күн бұрын
The art panels are ATS Acoustics absorption panels I purchased off Amazon and then wrapped in a breathable fabric that I had ordered with our custom artwork printed on it. The site I used is no longer operating but there are generally a couple sites that will print your graphics files onto a variety of materials for a reasonable cost.
