Mr. Klein, this is unlike anything I've seen from you in the past as regards your palette set-up. Have you changed your approach altogether, or just for this painting? Also, why do you usually put your yellows on the other side of white? Beautiful work as always.
@michaelkleinpochadepalette13 сағат бұрын
Yes, I arranged the palette closer to the visible spectrum of light. So the wave lengths of color correspond to the way colors flow into one another from that perspective, hope that makes sense.

Hello, allow me to offer my own opinion on the study of glazing in order to clear up the great confusion surrounding a practice which, once understood, is quite simple. For me, there are two ways to apply it, and several expected effects. The first (most common) of which is the enamel itself. It is always applied in the shadows or dark parts of the work. Its goal, through the play of transparency, is to modify the intensity, or the nuance of the color on which it is applied without covering it completely: it is in no way a question of repentance. This method of glazing always darkens the color it is applied to; and depending on the effects we wish to obtain, this can sometimes be similar to Leonardo da Vinci's sfumato. It is always applied in thin layers. The second method consists of applying a naturally opaque color or by making it opaque with white or even applying pure white in order to accentuate the lights on the lightest parts of your painting such as the petals of your flowers in your demonstration for ex. We must then speak more of vélature (Vélatura, smoke in Italian), than of glaze. They provide luminous accents: shine of jewelry, glass, metal, etc. Or again, they envelop the subjects in an evanescent veil, an effect of fog, of opalescence: the veils of virgins, in ancient paintings, were painted in this way as well as the lace of certain garments.

Learning a lot from you--also just kind of love how you'll be totally focused on something small and very reflexive and focused and then you feel something and do something really bold--some real passion in there along with that very calm voice.

This is the worst tutorial I’ve ever seen. your pallet has a million different colors and tones on it from years of work. You talk in circles. No explanation of the colors you use, if you are using any kind of medium and you title it “for beginners “ 😂 I hope your Patron is a hell of a lot more informative than this mess

so once this dries, will you scrape the flowers down and then go in for a second layer?
@michaelkleinpochadepalette10 күн бұрын
You can do anything you want really. I ended this particular piece “as is” for a demo, there are a few other videos on here that illustrate how to continue painting on something once it is dry.

Leaves are so difficult , why ?
@michaelkleinpochadepalette10 күн бұрын
Good question, probably the character of the shape. Leaves are thin so there is a lot of perspective issues as well, nature is always complex and pretty much anything is difficult in the end.

Thank you for position, I hope you would talk some about if you were using turps vs medium as the painting progressed. I took a class recently that talked about using the damvar linseed oil and turps, but a friend told me the damvar would eat my brushes and it seems to be true.

Enjoy your videos, thank you keep them coming. What brand of “raw umber” do you use. I notice some brands have a Green bias. Want a yellow bias, as you said in an older video, a neutral yellow. Thanks again for the video.
@michaelkleinpochadepalette23 күн бұрын
That’s a really good question! For most of my colors paint make is not a concern except for the “three primary neutrals” raw umber, burnt umber, and ivory black. All in Old Holland paints.
@DeanMarsh196222 күн бұрын
Old Holland, perfect. I have some other colors with old holland, I’m getting some raw umber then. I use your pallet for the most part, really like it 👍🏻 Have followed along mixing as well with a couple of your videos. Thanks, Michael.
