Places that have been dominating the world for the past few centuries have had racism ingrained in their systems and their societies so it is not unreasonable to think that many people in those countries are racist and some being (potentially) fascists. On the 25th of April, my country's (Portugal) celebration of overthrowing tyranny, I found this video and it reminds me we are so much more alike than we are different. Bella Ciao is beautiful, I'd heard it before and did not know of its' cultural meaning. Itália, muito afeto de portugal.

Beautiful song. My beloved Nonno was from Pula (now Pola Croatia). He was also against the Fascists. He was a simple farmer who belived in the cause but couldnt afford to fight, as he was a widower with 5 small children. He was dobbed in by his own brother, who was fighting for Mussolini. My Nonno was captured, and taken for Questioning... he was then taken to Dachau, then Mauthausen Concentration camps. Never to be seen again. My Mother can remember being woken in the middle of the night by a loud knock at the door, it was the neighbour who told them the Germans were comming and to Run! They all got up, the older ones getting the tiny ones out of bed and began running in the middle of the night. They didn't even have time to grab shoes. The townsfolk walked for days, untill an American army convoy picked them up and took them to a convent over the now italian/Croatian border. They never saw either their Father or their home again. It breaks my heart when i hear this song... the mountains and the flowers... my Late Mother spoke of them often. She remembered this song well. ❤
