Why do you use this backpack instead of your zpack backpack on day hikes? Thank you.
@happytrailbackpacking4 күн бұрын
Great question! The main difference is weight. The Zpacks backpack is a framed backpack. The frame allows the weight to be distributed to your waist instead of shoulders. It is also made with ultralight materials making it better for long hikes while carrying heavier loads. The daypack does not really have a frame, and is made with heavier more durable fabric and on day hikes you don't need to carry a shelter, days of food, or sleeping equipment so a frame is not needed. Daypacks, normally, are more focused on comfort.

Great video! I really like the still shots. It is hard to tell from the distance but the white flowering tees that you commented on may have been Serviceberry also called Shadbush ... [Amelanchier]. It has one of the earliest bloom periods of native trees in the Ozarks.

I love Galena, Illinois! Thank you for showing me the tunnel! Gotta go to Walmart and get the water shoes! Or maybe in this current weather the water will be frozen ... Your footage is an autumn weather temp. In the 50's.

From Googling, I think those are Dekay’s Brownsnakes. I’d give you a link, but KZbin always seems to nuke comments when I include links. If you search on “snakes of minnesota map” you should come across a Minnesota DNR document showing where various snake species are in the state. Love your channel, by the way. I found it this summer, and it’s helpful for thinking about which parks to visit. I especially liked this one and the one you recently did at Lake Maria since I’m buying a canoe and just got back into camping. Seeing the campsites you come across and getting a good idea of where it might be nice to paddle is great!

Good video. I’m actually a fan of the dispersed camping bushcraft, if it’s done in a respectful/discreet manner, we don’t have a concentrated camper atmosphere in most cases up this way and nature adapts. Much of human history we lived in a symbiotic manner with nature, molding wilderness, the compost of our lives can destroy o& nurtures

If you ever come back and are looking for other hikes, there's some lesser known trails near there to check out. Gogebic Ridge and the section of the NCT that runs through the Trap Hills. Not sure if there's any loops you could do (well there's one short one at the Norwich mine), would be a there and back thing but I've never looked into it too much, I just just do short hikes to lookouts and land features really.

Despite all the campsites having been reserved, there were many that looked empty. 80% of them were occupied but only by one or two people. There were quite a lot of people at the Cloud Lake Overlook area but other than than I saw very few people on trail.

I'm from Florida you wouldn't do well here if you didn't like it at 85. I bet 20 years ago it wasn't this hot out cuz it wasn't this out hot here in Florida. The highest here wouldn't exceed 91° and now it gets up into the mid 90s
@happytrailbackpacking4 ай бұрын
It's pretty normal here to reach the 90s. It's not just the heat but the heat and humidity combo. You get that in Florida too, I bet.

Not any other options for day hikes unless you just do out and back. The entire loop is fairly easy for a 3 day 2 night trip. Plenty of cool streams and creeks to explore.
