Well you need power/weight ratio. Removing only a small portion of weight will make a small difference. But weight reduction is definitely worth it if youre building a race car. If its a daily then youre right. No point in wasting time unless you do bracket racing

I knew the original owner of this car. George also owned a Giocattolo number 13 ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giocattolo ). as well as a holden V8 powered Nissan Pintara wagon. George was a very interesting character. I was saddened to here of his passing some 12 odd years ago. This Bullet was custom made for him as the usual engine was the Lexus 4ltr V8.

Yeah so my understanding is they were redesigned, buick engines. I'm on landrover forums and looks it's common for people to update the cooling system, assuming the stock isn't super efficient. I get they weren't super reliable cars but pretty sure the engine would outlast all other components that would fail . Did you have any huge issues?

i had no problem with either engine or transmission, and i pulled a 5000lb boat for a few hours to my second home often …i had problems with air suspension on both ..the first one i replaced…the other one i just bought range rover shocks and it never rode like the original … i had electrical issues with both before they even had 10k miles…but loved driving them for the short time i had them before the issues…

The Piazza (piat-za) was actually designed in the '70s alongside/inspiring the DeLorean, but only the Piazza had a series of body innovations that became commonplace on modern cars and gave it longevity; as noted manufactured and sold in various international markets from '81-'91, a long time for essentially a single generation car. First time I've heard it so slated; a mistake perhaps not proffering the later Lotus handling version or other adaptations for the Australian market. But these are things that some of the more swtiched-on commenters here note can be tuned as with most cars. The HBL handles pretty much to modern standards. I'm in the UK but actually have an imported 'Holden' badged Piazza in the restoration queue (barn find - no idea how it got here!)...will be an interesting project...

@phillpana there are many people swapping k series into mx5s, there is a us company that makes kits, originally it was called kmiata, but now it is called k power industries as they make kits for other chassis too. I believe they wven do turn key packages where they will do the entire swap for you. In their factory... Ofcourse there are many engines you can swap into an mx5, yours has more space than most because of the front tube frame.
@phillpana

My only concern is the chassis was re-engineered so chances are the kmiata kits may not be bolt on and might require some additional work to complete the kswap. Unless the Rover V8 blows it is here to stay.

@@phillpana yeah, I think you would be better off buying a new chassis if you wanted to do a k swap. I'd take a look at the car with the 1uz that someone mentioned. @@phillpana Yeah I can understand. What Bullet did was a great formula and in many ways, ahead of their time. These days the average punter is a bit more aware just how much of an undertaking it is to completely re-power something and behave factory-like. Bullet were doing that when there were many half-baked bodgy jobs out there like 350 chev's in Jag's on LPG. None of those stood the test of time like your car which is a very nice mix of engineering design from Japanese, English, American and Australian minds. What you've got there is something a bit like a Westfield S-EIGHT (double wishbone suspension, Rover V8 convertible), but with the Mazda engineered base, something much better than the Westfield.

George had two Bullets built to order. This one and a 1UZ powered model. I bought the Lexus powered model from him. I had a choice of that or this one, the Rover powered model. @@phillpana these weren’t really built for hp, but more torque. In early applications they only made around 100kw. 250-odd hp (at the flywheel given the stats at the wheels) isn’t bad for a 4.6l NA engine of the time. That’s comfortably around what an NA Barra produces for example, which was later. A 5.0 HSV started around the same (185kw @ flywheel). The use of the Rover engine was probably more to do with availability, keeping in mind this was a small time manufacturer of sorts. The rover was probably available as a crate engine, put into a couple (at most) early cars and then deemed to be better options. If anything it makes this one more unique. That kind of power should be plenty fast in a car weighing around 1000kg.
