Long answer: the DEI "movement" is not very centralized so many supporters try to use different ways to promote their cause, usually by consultation, but some of the more radical supporters prefer to force change or destroy studios. As for Godot, my guess is they hired the volunteer because they looked capable at first. And yes, many DEI radicals do not take criticism well as many believe that since they support DEI, they are never wrong. As for the topic you mentioned at 17:41: That has been happening, leading to many games with DEI heavy influence not being as profitable as hoped or just losing money as gamers are then shying away from them. But as said before, radicals don't like criticism and so believe they have to either force DEI on gamers or destroy other studio so the only choice that gamers have is DEI. For the topic at 21:54 One of the goals for DEI is the undo the "objectification of women". If you are unfamiliar with the concept, objectification is treating a human as an object and not a person. In the case of women, DEI believes that women in media are usually written or designed to just look nice or sexy and don't have a lot of character or personality. In response, DEI supporters consult that female characters shouldn't just look like fantasy too much and be more "realistic", however more and more DEI radicals demand uglier women so they can never be sexual in any way. As to why so much hate on Japanese games? Because much western games journalists are DEI supporters and Japan aren't accepting DEI ideas, so are using media to dissuade gamers from Japanese games. In regards to "women can't be hit". Traditionally in American society, a man is disrespectful if they hit a women without justification or within reason, and a man can defend themselves if a woman attacks him if there is no other way to resolve it. Today there is less stigma of women getting in the media. 27:06 - In my opinion, that "waking up" has already started as the large studios are beginning to be more critical with their writers and worrying less about being cancelled on twitter and have started to look at the successful smaller teams. I think what's going on is after all the other projects failed they activated the neurons of critical thinking and actually looked how buggy the trailer was. Clipping issues, horses sliding, floating doors, ecs. And from that someone who can do something actually noticed that the game had no quality control like the rest of the releases, if the trailer was buggy then how buggy is the actual game? Tho at this point it'd prolly be cheaper to make the game from scratch than fix all the bugs. As the game is "finished". Tho if the don't admit their faults and pretend it has no flaws then making the game from scratch again they'll just make all the same mistakes. I think it is only partially DEI, it leads things to toxic positivity and being so tolerant that if someone makes a mistake they just accept it and put it into the game without objecting to them. I'm thinking incompetent people are already in the product development positions, so getting rid of DEI is too late. And I'd bet people with the DEI mentality are hired into dev positions and people who spoke up to critizise or had higher standards are long since fired. Tho they might not learn and just hire SBI competitors into the consultant positions and keep on making the same mistakes. Tho I think the delay has nothing to do with DEI, directly. But rather the state of the game, if the trailers are anything to go by. Trailers were super buggy, so if anyone competent in a position of power looks at the game they'll find out that it's a product in a broken state.
