This airplane had been chartered by Olympic Airlines to operate flight 202 CDG-ATH during summer 2005. At that time, Olympic didn't have even the financial ressources to refurbish its own planes, let alone buy new ones. Since they were short of aircraft for their summer schedule, they wet-leased that already tired and badly maintained L1011 from a dubious company in Jordan. Then an engine blew out during take-off, and it had remained in situ ever since. StarJet went bankrupt shortly after this event, and so did Olympic in 2009. So no one knew what to do with it.

I always enjoyed seeing that plane on the tarmac at CDG. Then one day it was gone! :-(

One thing to know is that the engine no3 of this very L1011 suffered a compressor stall when he flew out of CDG. The airline operating it returned to CDG stored it here for nearly a decade before it got scrapped. Some even say grass began growing on the plane

TriStar is very old planes. Nobody make them now. Some of them now staying in museums, but other one... Other one were unlucky like this one, and they were scrapped. Rest in peace, L 1011
