My great grand father, Otto Schrall, was an Austrian soldier, he served as a messenger in the Wehrmacht in Italy during WW2. A great man who moved to the US and became a mechanic, one of the most mild tempered and cool dude ever. He was the source of reason and discipline in our family, truly a great man, father and, AMERICAN, and I miss him a lot. RIP Otto!

Man i would love it so much if a movie series was made based on these books! I know it wouldnt happen realistically, but i have read them soo many times and have always pictured how they could create films based on them Although itd be interesting to see how they make sure we dont know waldstein and foster were the same person until later on, because in the books we obv dont see his face

I have no sympathy for these selfish idiots who climb these mountains and die.. They often leave behind partners and kids due to their stupidity. Very selfish people.

Mythologically they are hybrids. That was the Hebrew entertaining fiction of the tie. If you want some that 'could' be more factual, The Forgotten Books of Eden are rather interesting when it comes to what could be more of a fact based Genesis, and it's a difficult read.

I know its horrible that they kept on going after two people fell to their deaths in front of them but it happens all the time in animal kingdom. look at the how wildebeests and zebras behave when one gets taken by the lions or crocks, fish when one of them gets taken, lions when one of them is killed, they mourn for a second and then continue to go about their business. We are no different but a only a few of us will break that norm and put our lives at risk for others who are unrelated to us.

I loved the trilogy, and I'm still amazed that the rights are not been bought for films or TV series. It would take to the screen very well.

I wish you had made an audiobook of Ackroyd reading the whole thing. Many fine authors are not good narrators, but Ackroyd's reading here is fantastic. I want to keep listening!

Hi! I read this book in Dutch. It’s called “Niemands bruid” - Nobody’s bride. I loved it! But, I don’t understand the ending. I searched for it online. But no luck. On the last page. Dogman said: “Waarom ik je wil hebben? Omdat jij mij wilt hebben. Dat geldt voor ons alletwee, snap je?” Why I want to have you? Because you want to have me. It’s the same for the both of us, do you understand?” Pell thinks about this and whispers “no”. After this she closes her eyes because she has this feeling which is coming over her. It looks like to me that she does not want to come back to dogman. She don’t want him to have or need her, and she doesn’t need him. Does this remind her of Birdy? But why does she come back to him if she is saying “no”? For her sister? I don’t understand and it’s driving me grazy.

What a devastating loss his death is to wild life conservation. I met Tony when he arrived in Nairobi in the 70’s. As he says in Born Wild, in those days he was a hard drinking, womanising, drug taking scoundrel. I didn’t like him. However, over the years I have followed his rise to fame, and now feel privileged to say that our lives touched briefly. He became a true hero and Africa will be much poorer place without his endless determination to save animals from the relentless cruelty of humans.

Why risk your life like that? It's beautiful", he said. Really? Do climbers have some super human capacity for perceiving the "beautiful" that the folks staying down do not. I don't think so. They do it out of sheer stupidity, irresponsibility, personality problems, George Mallory syndrome, or any combination of these. I'd say they are stupid people.

There are other beautiful places in the world and other achievements you can accomplish without having to go to the top of these mountains and risk your life and the lives of others that try to save you. Then you become a permanent landmark on these mountains used by others to possibly meet the same fate. No, no, nope not for me, I stay roasty toasty in my home and pass away from aging and have a proper burial. Making it to old age is an achievement and all the beautiful people and places that are safe to go to is enough for me. U

Idiots. It's called 'The Death Zone'. Fer krissakes. I get such a kick out the posts saying: 'respect'. Why? Because 'only' eleven of these schmucks died? Had it been all 30, does that equate to even more 'respect'? These people had wives, husbands, children, parents, et al. I wonder how they feel about it? Respect? I doubt it. Probably pretty angry at such stupid (and utterly avoidable) deaths.
