I have a vacuum advance with petronix pointless dist. Do i still use 32 degrees at 3000 rpm?

@tomasalvarez6040 the 32 degrees total advance is recommended for centrifugal advance distributors. For vacuum advance, even electronic ignition version, you’d probably want to set timing at idle per the factory recommendation

Good video! Also worth pointing out the Pertronix instructions tell you to increase the spark plug gap (for obvious reasons), so any Beetle with pertronix and also compufire need larger gap. Also, engine should be warm when checking timing (unlike valves adjusted when cold).

I didn't have the formula or tables but I got it pretty close. You can adjust the idle with the mixture screw not air but mixture. Adjust for leanest it will take. Your engine sounds great.

I'm sure that's possible but I've never looked for such a system for an air-cooled VW. I would think you'd need some sort of crankshaft position sensor to make it work without a distributor.

@displayfireworks1 We were all having a great time until then. My wife was even in the middle of a shell class when they stopped everything and asked people to go help get stuff off the floor of the C tent and to unload the magazines. There were even reports of missing JPA kids, which I believe thankfully turned out to be untrue.

The shows for Wed. night were postponed. We had to leave after Wed so I haven't heard yet if they were able to reschedule anything. The way things looked Wed. morning it seems hard to believe that there would be any more shows.
