Not really, he was playing kumite which is called Awase. Juji kumite is the opposite and very powerful. Gogen Sensei school was the most feared in the 60s and 70s. I was there. Every night at kumite was a bloodbath . It was so terrifying people would wee in their pants. Ask anyone from the old school. Watch the videos of old. I am going to post some soon.
