I was introduced to this poem 12 years ago when I was in high school (maybe middle school?) And it's only now that I kinda sorta understand it. The Vitruvian Man goes hard!

Carlitos, I can watch this performance of this timeless poem forever. One of the teachers that works with our students in my class wants to use it for a professional development session with all of our teachers. The session is about students struggling with all of the same issues as Maya. I hope that it okay with you. She will open the session with this performance of the piece that I suggested. Have a great evening. Thank you for what you do. -Joseph

I don't understand why slam poetry is so weird to most people, this is such a beautiful example at all the emotions spoken word holds. UGHH they presented this so elegantly.

I LOVE DYSLEXIA !!!! Be blessed Carlos for this epic performance from your heart.....Dyslexia is the key to civilization outside the 3D frame, full of love, creativity, compassion, and peace ....it is about time humanity understands the blessings of this brain and allows it to transform pedagogy for the benefit of all. Be blessed Carlos!

I don't see the big deal. Maybe it's a regional thing. Here in Miami the question "where are you from?" implies what your heritage is. Most people don't mean ill by it but are just making small talk. I say this as 100% Latino. I don't understand the offense unless you think the person is asking with ill intent b

The offense is when you answer and they declare your answer not good enough. Listen closer to the poem and you'll know... or you know, declare people are being too sensitive. 😒🙄😏

@@hotonenickie I am curious where people are from when I think they aren't from here. Maybe it's someone like me that loves to connect with other immigrants? When I tell people where I'm from our conversation explodes. The question is offensive? Lol.

I LOVE this poem. Women and girls are easily and immediately dismissed by society and unfortunately for some, they dismiss themselves over this diabolical bullshit. I Love Diana, not because she was a "princess", I Love her because she was Diana. When your a female your not at all even seen as a human so that makes it more an excuse (because people know better and still carry on the behavior passing it to others) to keep attempting to shape and control whom they already have a sick fixation on. If you refuse to address anyone by their name and register them in your mind to be a full on human being, do not disrespect that living breathing being any further. So many attempt to create you instead of registering you in real time. Evil is evil, perversion is perversion.

The folks who invaded any land already occupied by humans always came up with a word people weren't even going by. Like, "engines"/Indians u.s.a., Indians of India from the continent of Asia both linked to the word indian regardless of location. Gets more insane the further you go down the rabbit hole with racism.
