How did you get the rear hub pushed down to align with the bottom shock bolt ? I just finished up my rear shocks and ended up disconnecting the attachment links, then fighting to get them back on.

Long tube and basically lay down on top, not easy, but doable.

Great vid and I agree with the other comments...you sir are a genius. Would you consider repairing my fuel level guage? or would you be able to machine extra seals as you did in Option B? I would obviously pay you for them. I figure this is a better fix and would rather send you money than to actually buy a replacement gauge that will likely fail again. Please let me know. I own a 2014 MTS 1200S the OEM part number is 59210211B. Thank you!

I’ve heard it’s best to pre-fill the filter before fitting. Also lube the rubber filter gasket before tightening.

It is recommended, but not necessary to pre-fill, I do it this way, because it’s less messy. Filter comes with lubed gasket already 😉

Is this typical of the dirt & oxidation we'd see in most i3s? Or is this from salt on roads, and lots of wet driving? Makes me want to go pressure-wash mine right now.

Honestly I have never seen anything like this before on any other car. The oxidation is unbelievable on i3 you can scoop it with a spoon and it’s everywhere. Previously I used air compressor to clean the motor, one year later and it’s the same…

Good vid, but you don’t need to remove any if tte fairing or tank. Just use a mini hex drive rachett in the top fork clamps

Great video ! Thank you ! Next time the fuel sender fails I will try this repair. You should also look in to APS ( throttle control ) on Multistrada. It fails quite often and I am sure it has some design flaw. Tried opening one, it has a potentiometer inside, I don’t understand electronics but tried cleaning it but that didn’t help. Finally had to replace the sensor.

@@Mr.BadMechanic could be but can’t say for sure. You can connect OBD diagnosis and check throttle position at different levels (twisting throttle). Bike could be in ignition no need to start. If you find any anomaly with the throttle percentage with twisting throttle it could be the potentiometer.

@@Mr.BadMechanic I used torque lite app available in play store. It can just read codes stored in the ECU and clear it. Not much can be done on DVT onwards models

how do you ensure the bottom hole in the shock is perfectly aligned with the top mount orintation? is there a mark or anything?

Easiest way would be to mark everything before disassembly, but in case it doesn’t align you can use spring compression tool when putting shock back and align everything by hand. Just be careful and take your time 😉

Got it all aligned ok but now way can I get the hub pushed down far enough to engage the bottom of the shock absorber 11:10 on the video. . I'm using a 4 foot bar and all of my weight buit it seems the bushes are just too strong and stopping the hub going far enough down. I'm stuck!

Mate, I feel your pain 😔 it took a while for me to get it in… that’s what she said 👹 make shure the car is stable and basically lay down on the bar with all your weight it’s very hard but that’s how I got the bottom bolt.

@@Mr.BadMechanic Thanks, that makes me feel a lot better! Finally got it in with a lot of swearing. The other side was quite a bit easier but I think that may be because I replaced the entire suspension leg a while back and likely didn't load the suspension up enough when I tightened the bolts on the suspension arms so the bushes are probably pre loaded now. I should fix that really.... Not a nice job for something that looks fairly simple. Doing the front shocks tomorrow - any words of wisdom?

Lest go!!!😀 for the front be careful with top bolts, 5 out of 6 snapped on my car. Also top mount’s shock bolt was pain in the A$$ to undo. Well to be fair mine car probably came from Nordic country so many bolts are seized and instead of reached tool I had to use angle grinder 🤬

What were the symptoms? Mine charge fine on old 50kW chargers, but only very rarely on the new high power chargers. Gets to two blue blinks and then it fails 🙁

EXRTEMELY important notice -> epoxy glue NEEDS to be petrol resistant ! which is very rare and hard if not impossible to find !!

I’ve looked into streetfighter tank, the fuel sensor could be simply zip tied to a fuel pump. I think you could use any kind of sensor (tubular shape) as for electrical part perhaps something like raspberry pi and small screen would work. I’m not an IT guy so can’t really tell if it would work.

Very good video. I've had the same issue with my sensor inside the epoxy: the crimped metal connection broke. Due to vibration or thermal expansion, whatever. In my opinion this is a major design failure so your repairable solution is a very good solution. Needs bullet-proof insulation against petrol since the sensor is right above the cyylinder. Sudden smell is a warning if it would start to leak. ;-) Next time I make the repairable gasket solution as well, thanks for the idea.

Thank you. Just for reference I’ve used NBR rubber for gaskets (make sure it is fuel resistant, there are different types) and PO plastic for the rest of the part. After few weeks of riding no leaks. Best of luck!

Great video. Just taken mine apart and looking for the right epoxy. I see that you used the Permatex 84115 5-Minute Plastic Weld Adhesive and was wondering whether is safe and resistant to petrol / gas.

I ended up making my own part at the end. For the epoxy, I would google search for the correct epoxy (the one that resistant to fuel) great question though! If you figure which one works, please post here for others 😉
