Congrats, you two. You took on a notorious booger of a trail, and remained chipper and upbeat (at least, in front of the camera) Years ago, a friend and I climbed the north face of San Jacinto from the little mountain hamlet of Snow Creek, at the base. (Huell Howser did a segment on the town) So I’ve done San Jack the OTHER hard way ! Glad to see fellow masochists slap the summit.

Hey thanks for watching. It was a tough hike! It is easy to be chipper when you are out on the trial.

In one day? Well, I hope so... It's a 20.5 mile class 1 trail, and anyone with some semblance of aerobic fitness RUNS the route in 8 hours or less.
@InspireToGoАй бұрын
Yes the title "In One Day" is for those that want to do the hike in a day. There are many who do the hike in 2 days camping mid way up the trail. When getting a permit there are 2 types of permits hikers get. A permit to do the hike in one day and a permit to camp overnight and do the hike in 2 days.
@doloressargeant8778Ай бұрын
did the altitude bother you?
@InspireToGoАй бұрын
It slows you down the higher you get. But not a big issue for us. Some are effected big time by the altitude.

don't think this is the highest peak in southern AZ... unless i am misunderstanding what area of AZ is considered "southern AZ". mount graham, miller peak and chiricauhua peak are all located in the same section of the state as wrightson (southeastern AZ) and they are all taller peaks.
@youkitty109Ай бұрын
How you deal with the high elevation, and did you take Diamox?
@InspireToGoАй бұрын
The high elevation for us has never been a big issue. Yes it starts to slow you down the higher you get. Some days you feel it other times not a big deal for us. We just pace ourselves depending on how we feel. We have never taken Diamox.

The west side of Whitney is pretty easy going up, it’s the east side going down that takes some time. Lots of people. Walking or running up Whitney from lone pine isn’t hard, just takes time. I suggest running the easier sections.

I use to do this hike decades ago (back when permits were only $5). Though you cannot do in anymore, there are two other waterfalls further up Cibeque creek... with a deep emerald pool just before the second waterfall (about 20 foot in diameter). Just before the third waterfall were many deep swimming pools. Ahh... fond memories. I do recommend going before any rain that affects the river (April thru June typically). While rain does affect the safety, it also makes the crystal clear water look more like chocolate milk.

Wish they had an early morning hikers shuttle at Sabino. I did an overnighter to Hutch’s Pool earlier in the year with my son. Fun area. Water was to cold to swim 🤣. Question- what sun hoodie do you have on. Haven’t found a perfect one but like the one by KETL except it gets a little stinky and doesn’t have a button by the chin so if the wind picks up the hood blows off. My hardest hike was Jackass Canyon up by Navajo Bridge. I had my 3 young boys and we were backpacking and it was hot. Learned a lot from that one. It’s not long but more technical with bouldering. If I did it without my kids it wouldn’t have been so challenging. Need a Navajo Permit but it’s a fun one! You guys are animals!

FYI for anyone coming from the Valley up the 60, you can buy a permit before you get up there at the Ace in Globe, AZ. These two tried to do it without a permit and realized there was a Game and Fish officer there, then were forced to drive an hour out of the way to Whiteriver Junction to get one.
