Excellent info, Thank You! Do you (or anybody) have experience dealing with the known Mclane issue of 'blade-angle sag'? (This is when the blade angle, set to the default notch, is no longer parallel to the concrete edge, but is tilted down/in toward the concrete, leading to premature blade wear and missed grass sprouts or sprigs that are rooted against the concrete... And of course moving to the NEXT angle notch setting up moves it too far PAST parallel, leading to a wonky-looking edge and trash left in the slot.) ANY help greatly appreciated!

@RobertDinTulsa2 жыл бұрын
The wheel stop is for the wheels on the VEHICLE that gets parked in the garage. No guessing where to stop since the wheel stop makes that decision for you. Everything in the garage is on wheels or is extremely light/doesn't need wheels. Makes it very easy to use/move. No struggle.

A 10 inch Oregon 40-503 is a nice thick .149 blade. It’s as thick as I’ve seen them. Got mine on eBay. A 10 pack for $50. None of the big box stores in my area carried a good fit.
@RobertDinTulsa2 жыл бұрын
I take it that they fit the McLane edger, correct? Are they balanced? Get this...I'm still using that same blade but it's nearing the end of it's lifespan. I just had to change a couple of things in my edging process.
@pnwester26972 жыл бұрын
@@RobertDinTulsa They do fit my McLane. Two sharpened edges (which doesn’t matter to me). I guess they’re balanced. I help with grounds maintenance at our church where the grass edge measures 9/10 of a mile not including the street curb which is done with a string trimmer. The edging had been neglected so the first edging of this season wore one blade down 80% but the concrete edge is real irregular. The every two week touch up trimming wears it down much less.

Those tabs do break easily > 2 solutions - 1 is if there is room drill and use a self tab short screw > 2nd is if not enough catch for to catch the microwave, use a small bracket to make the bridge and use a screw on each side. Reason for a short self tab better control of screwing in as well as not going to deep to hit anything > so best to look at best location for that an discrete spot so it still looks good before lining the control cover .. worked for me better than buying a panel.

I had an awful time disconnecting the wires from the switch. If this happens to you, put the swith back in and use a screwdriver in the small slot between the green wire housing to pry it off. Trying to pull the wires from the switch (for me) was the hardest part of this fix. Preferably use the screwdriver in the slot BEFORE you remove the switch.

I was at a hostel now. They have one of those steel crome commercial microwave ovens you see in restaurants and coffee bars. I opened the door the fan was still on no light. I asked if I could turn it off to place food. Receptionist said no. So I put hand in to place food I felt tingling prickly feeling along my arm and hand. The fan was on but no light. The same situation when I took it out. My arm feels a bit strange now half an hour later. Is this my imagination. How do I know if only the fan was on, not the microwaves. Also when I first opened the door, three times for less than five seconds each time. Can microwaves escape and hit my torso. I don't know why they could not let me trun off the machine first.

Well, I picked up this new pully/shaft and tried it out. Unfortunately, the shoulder on it is no different than the McLane part. Maybe it's been changed after complaints like yours :-(
@willymena4 жыл бұрын
It was definitely the same one. Here's what I think. If you look at the pulley/shaft you got, it's a pulley that's tig welded near the end. Yours clearly is tig welded farther up the shaft than mine was giving you more play. The one I purchased was actually worse than the McLane version, in that it's actually shorter than the McLane version. Tolerances at Rotary must not be too good... or... they made changes to the part in the past few years. The problem I'm having is the new bearings are not sitting flush to the tube. They're each sticking out about 1/8". That causes the bearings to bind when I tighten the blade.
@willymena4 жыл бұрын
In addition... comparing the one I received and the one you show in your video.... your pulley is noticeably closer to the top of the shaft than mine is. If I had yours, it would work for me. If you had mine, you would not need the washer.
@willymena4 жыл бұрын
I have to thank you for this video.... let me tell you why. I recently replaced both bearings on my circa 1995 McLane Edger as well as the "Cutterhead Pulley & Shaft". I've tried 2 different sets of bearings and neither sits flush with the tub it sits in. They both come out slightly. I'm not sure if it's my tube (I doubt it) or a change in the bearing. In any case, the "shoulder" on the "Cutterhead Pulley & Shaft" does not come out past the bearing. As a result, when I tighten the blade, the unit will not turn. Now that I know that the "Rotary" made ""Cutterhead Pulley & Shaft" that you show here has a slightly longer shoulder than the "McLane" made one, I'll go ahead and order it and it should resolve my issue. I would suggest that you add back the spring washer that goes in between the pulley end and the bearing.

By drinking beer, my oven has been repaired twice, for free. Yep, a few beers did the trick. Off I went walking to the beer store with my foldable cart on a rainy day. On the way there, I spotted a microwave oven that was placed at the curb for disposal purposes. So on the way back home from the beer store, I dropped this oven into my cart and took it home with me. After drying it off, I took it apart and it turned out to have the same micro-switches, the same AC fuse, and the same thermal fuses, and they were all working perfectly. So, after replacing one AC fuse, one thermal fuse, and one dead micro-switch, it worked perfectly again, and still kept going on strong many years later. Today, I had to replace another one of the door micro-switches, but I still had 3 micro-switches to spare from the trashed oven. Also, the curb trashed microwave oven turntable, now functions as a lazy susan for one of my tall plants that needs to be rotated now and then.

Thanks for the video. It got me past the basics to troubleshoot my GE. I have a GE JVM3160DFBB. It worked for a year then stopped. I found out the cause and replaced one of the thermo fuses, the one on the right. The microwaved worked for a month and the same fuse blew again. I replaced the fuse again. When I plugged the microwave in everything worked fine, except now the vent fan stays on with the door open and close. I can change the speed from high to low, but it will not shut off. I let it run for about 20 minutes, still on. I checked the 3 door switches and they have continuity and the buttons click just fine. The 2 thermo fuses have continuity. Please help. I cannot figure what else it could be. Thanks, Lessie. I also changed the 20a/250v fuse.

Why paint the wire black? It goes to a switch; order doesn't matter, since there's only two connections, wire length notwithstanding. And you may as well replace all of them.
@RobertDinTulsa5 жыл бұрын
As stated in the video at ~ 7:40, I initially used a marker to clearly define one orange wire from its neighbor...only to realize that I would have still have to remember which marked/unmarked wire goes where. Order does matter. The purpose of the video was to record myself in troubleshooting and problem-solving a repair issue instead of buying a new $400 microwave. Most importantly, to show other people my successes, failures, frustrations and can-do-it attitude without paying a tradesman $90 an hour plus parts to do something that will, in the end, cost me a small fraction of what that person would have charged. Staying organized when learning a brand-new skill (IN-PROCESS) can be challenging for anyone. Staying positive while being frustrated with a process can also be challenging. Replace all of them? As stated in another comment - good point...I'll do that to the remaining two the next time it happens. Great lesson. Thanks for the tip. Tips help people save their hard-earned $$$.

Joe O'Leary commented on Dec 30 at 10:18 AM "If avoiding back pain why lift the entire bottom tray?" I couldn't find that comment anywhere (as it was most likely deleted) by the time I got to my desktop but my response is: The human body is basically a mechanical device and like all other mechanical devices, it has a limited life span due to wear and tear (W&T). Opening / closing the dishwasher door once a day produces less W&T than performing the same process multiple times / day. Driving a vehicle to the grocery store once a week produces less W&T than driving daily. Repetitious movements are WASTEful and produce a LOT of W&T. As for lifting more weight once - study Ed Coan, Deadlift master. Always study from a proven master. Reducing WASTE is this channels primary focus.

Interesting, they are labeled 10/2018 but the video was posted in 11/2018 so I imagine 10/2018 was when you brought them? Would it be leaner to instead write the expiry date front and center? Maybe even use color coded stickers for each month to make it even more clear?
@RobertDinTulsa5 жыл бұрын
Oddly enough, the refrigerator is the ONLY place that management has jumped on the lean bandwagon...they HATE food being left in there for very long - smelling, stinking, rotting, etc... I get your valid point but management wants to know how long items have been in there, not when they expire. Another point that you caught is that I placed those items in there in 10/2018 and video'd it the same day...just didn't post the video. I make hundreds of micro improvements throughout the work week...I just don't have the time to video them and not allowed to video most of them due to the nature of the job. I wanted to stretch the videos out. Still, good catch. Yes, color coding is better. Want something shocking? Other employees saw my labeling and followed suit = Heart attack! They still aren't lean in their daily work but at least its a step in the right direction for them.

how do you replace the bearings for the cutterhead pully and shaft? I cant pull the shaft out its stuck. thanks eric
@RobertDinTulsa6 жыл бұрын
Eric, once you have the shaft out you simply have to: 1) insert a screwdriver (or some other longer instrument of your choice) through the hole in the left set of bearings, angled up or down until it hits against the outer edge of the right set of bearings... 2) use a hammer (or some other striking device) to strike against the screwdriver...several times until the right set of bearings pop out 3) repeat the above procedures for the left bearings (except that you won't have to insert the screwdriver through the right bearings since you have already popped them out.

Eric, That missing 1/4-20x1/2 screw on front of the housing that holds shaft and bearing secures the pulley cover (that you are also missing) to the rest of the assembly that you have been focused on.
