I wish I had the chance to show the world my skill behind the wheel... but broken people are not lucky enough to have the means to have a life where they come close to their dreams! Living one's dream of driving a fast car cost too much... That and a bad spine and low sitting sportscars don't mix. I think that's why I stay depressed, I wasted my whole life learning to become one of the best drivers in the world just to lose everything when my spine gave out at 19yo... then again at 22.... and yet again at 29! I'm 41 now, sitting in a wheelchair because while waiting at a red light 3 years ago, I got hit by a woman in a truck too busy texting to see that traffic had stopped and ran into the rear of my car at around 65mph! If there was any hope of happiness before, then that made sure I'd never come close to living my dream or even being able to drive for work anymore.... I was a 400 mile a day courier until my 2011 CVPI got hit! I even got fucked over the settlement because I already had spine issues, they used that to pay me as little as possible! I know I am meant to suffer, every time I find something that makes me happy... Fate comes along and takes it from me.... Jobs, money, cars, women... you name it, and I've been unlucky enough to lose it. Want proof my luck is bad? I only asked for ONE thing for Christmas, and didn't get it because "someone forgot".. someone forgot to get the 41yo cripple living in the basement the only thing he asked for (other then to not suffer for Christmas knowing that was never a real option) I was even made to feel bad for expecting to get the only thing I wanted.... (sorry, I'm venting because I'm alone. I'll delete this if anyone ask me to)

Oh wow, very well summarized. This is exactly how we all feel about this series. Wangan is for those of is that actually build their cars and understand the journey to this short but sweet amount of happiness we get from speed. Your voice is also a delight to listen to. Lol thanks for this.

Inital d is basically still onto reality, just the fact they are wealthy enough to bot worry about repairs, for example, ryosuke and keisuke is rich, so they can constantly drive, takumi's father got his back, nazakato so rich that he crashes constantly... While wangan midnight is a reality check, you are no wealthy person, unlike those people in intial d, akio is just a schoolboy with part time jobs, tatsuya literatly struggling to pay for the blackbird, reina as a actress(i think), yamamoto spent his savings for speed, so we can say that initial d is somewhat unrealistic, yet wangan midnight is telling you the truth as a normal person.

I don't fall in line with most car enthusiasts' passion for pursuing speed. However, the financial struggles of the automotive passion (especially for parts and modifications) remain the same. I've always had a long-term goal of moving to another state, most especially to be closer to friends. However, I still place my automotive dreams as a priority (despite having multiple other high-cost hobbies), as the window for viable parts supply dwindles as time progresses. At one point, I was able to afford the move and I still chose to pursue my automotive goals. Wangan Midnight is an anime I initially didn't quite grasp. But as I got older, I became able to comprehend the struggles having to balance an expensive hobby with other aspects of life.

Couldn't agree more. You can tell it was made by people who definitely had big dreams when they were younger but were hampered by daily bs life throws at you as you get older. Back when I was 15 I used to think that I would knock out a Mirage to Evo VI swap in a few months. Nowdays I can't even finish a hillclimb build in 2 years.

And the most unbelievable part is that because of initial D, I became a karting driver. The techniques really do work. (except for heel and toe for obvious reasons) I learned to depend less on the steering wheel and controlling the kart with the pedals. I started sliding minimally, so that I can maximise the rotation. And the reaults speak for themselves. I won the last 4 races I took part in
