Preciosa canción que imagino de la autoría de Neil Sedaka. Agradeceré informarme si hay alguna otra versión. Y gracias, muchas gracias, por compartir.

By far, my favorite Neil Sedaka song. Finally a song that speaks of many people's reality instead of delusional happy talk.

Why come on to Neil Sedaka's posting to promote Lena zavaroni? Yes she had talent but not as good as this man.

Neil's expressive emotionally filled voice should have been the best performance of his song. But I agree with other comments that Lena topped Neil's interpretation. Her voice is full of so many more levels of deep feelings that rip at my heart each and every time that I listen to her. Lena and Judy Garland made songs their own. Sammy Davis could do it as well. RIP Lena. Your personality was so complex, haunted by demons that took you away way too soon.......

E Smith, you are on to something there. It does take on some new meaning. But what a great collection of footage... Licenciadotuda, where is the footage from? not the The Doors stuff... but the festival footage?...

Well, for one who used to sing harmonies to this song with Lena Zavaroni ... I think we should give HUGE kudos to Neil Sedaka for writing it and appreciate Lena for covering it. I know it was one of her favourite songs to sing outside of the stage.

I love both versions! I do think Lena put everything into hers though, and am delighted to say that Neil has written a tribute to Lena's version on my website lenazavaroni.co.uk if anyone wants to read it, don't forget to sign the guestbook!

I've never heard this song before today when i stumbled upon Lena Zavaroni's performancc. She was fantastic. FANTASTIC. Such emotion. An incredible performance from a lady who did not receive the credit she deserved. That's not to say Sedaka's version is lacking in any way and i wouldn't say anyone's trying to "convert". Just watch LZ's stunning performance and enjoy.

Neil Sedaka's version of his song is the best. Lena Zavaroni did an excellent cover of it but why do her fans continually come on here to try and convert others?

@davlaur i agree lena zavaroni's performance of this is unbeatable

@007esq I totally agree '007esq' Lena's version is the most powerful performance I've seen from her (if you know of any more powerful from her - please let me know). I think the lyrics probably meant a lot to her and you could almost see her personal pain in her face as she sang this. I, for one, was blown away by it...and I agree with you - very, very poignant.

Neil wrote a superb song BUT it comes to pure life with Lena Zavaroni's version. Sheer vocal magnificence. Sadly, even more poignant when watching it now.

From the words and pictures associated with the song it seems to be a protest against the sixties. Judging by the nitwits that the sixties sent up the political ladder Neil was prescient with this song.

@andresdalessandro i think the hippies are relevant to the song as is jim morrison and other various scenes of people 'going nowhere' or so it would seem, very relevant to todays world dont you think?

I love this song! I hadn't heard it by Neil Sedaka before, only Lena. I find this a brilliant version, but still find Lena's version to be straight from her heart, and she uses everything she has in her to deliver this song. - Debs. xxx

The quality of the stunning performance of this song by Lena Zavaroni is evident in the fact that it's become one of the main topics of coversation here. I'm sure Mr Sedaka himself would concede that it's a remarkable rendition of his song.

I love Neil Sedaka and Lena's version of his wonderful song in 1981 left me stunned ... I heard it for the first time two days ago and can't stop playing it ... a true, rare and unique talent ... and sadly missed.

Thank you Mr. Sedaka for one of the most insightful songs outlining the horrible conditions people of all kinds and circumstances must endure in the world but escaping it through denial; either through drugs, drink and what have you. I don't understand how I missed this wonderful song for nineteen (18) years. I can say I found a treasure. Oh, and thank you Licenciadotuba for posting this.

Love Neil Sedaka but agree, Lena done to this song what Clay Aiken did to Solitaire, they made it their own. Great song writer though.
