I was a mechanic (Marines) attached to an artillery battery in Desert Storm. We were in a convoy going to our next position. The CO’s HUMMV pulled a J suddenly and the 1st Sgt and Gunny started shouting orders to get everything set up. There was a small hill, maybe 500 ft high. The CO had gotten word that there was Iraqi unit supported by armor on the other side of the hill, heading our way. Our gun line was getting set up. Me and a couple of other guys were digging in the M-19. This one LCPL was very nervous, digging like crazy with his E-tool. Through all the noise we heard that deep droning sound of Cobras in the distance along with the whop whop whop of the blades. There was two heading our way. The highest point of our battery was the FDC 5 ton with an antenna. The Cobras were just barely higher than that as they flew over our position. One was close enough I could’ve hit it with a rock if I timed it right. The nervous LCPL starts jumping up and down while waving his E-tool. The gunner with his helmet and gloves, looks over at us and gives a thumbs up followed by splaying out his fingers to simulate an explosion 💥 They split immediately after that, each going a different direction around the hill. Then we heard the Cobras open up. A few minutes and we were back in the convoy. That gunner in the nose of that thing flying by was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen :)

I don't think they would play and original tape. This might be a master copy of that tape. Do to the coating of the tape being black where as tapes of that time were brown not so much black unless it's an early "Low noise High output" tape. Running at 7 1/2 is interesting too. You'd think it would be 15 ips which they had at that time. I'm a bit sceptic on this whole "Original Recording" shizz.

I was raised in Kansas and it's amazing when you tell somebody you're from Kansas. The first thing out of their mouth is some stupid wizard of oz comment. Nobody happens to know that Wichita is the air capital of the world. More aircraft built there than anywhere on the planette. Coleman is a Kansas company. Not to mention pizza hut white castle et cetera
@joeblack89157 ай бұрын
I came here to read all the delusional comments by Buddy Holly fans who think he was 'The King of Rock n Roll'. 🤣🤣🤣 Nope, that would be Elvis. And even if Elvis had not existed, but somehow Rockabilly (which he invented at Sun) had come into being without him, Buddy Holly still wouldn't be 'king'. Here's a novel idea, stop talking out of your arses about the greatest, most influential music icon of all time - Elvis - and just enjoy listening to Buddy Holly. Or is that something you can't do without denigrating another artist? Apart from defending Elvis against the nonsense I read in some of the comments, I don't feel the need to denigrate another artists when I'm commenting on KZbin videos featuring Elvis. After all, why would I need to? None of them even come into the equation when it comes to the most influential, greatest musical icon there has ever been, not to mention the biggest-selling solo artist to this day. Be thankful Elvis did what he did, because without him there would have been no Buddy Holly - just a small-time country singer whose name would have long since faded into obscurity.
