How different, and how refreshing, to see a shepherd's heart that doesn't seek place or position. This has to be one of the greatest needs today-servant hearts who love God's people, seek their good, and help them along the rough road of life. Well worth it to listen to a brother who knows what it is to watch over the souls of people, discern their needs, and give them God's truth, not human opinions.

These are my favorite episodes on your channel. Everything else you post is of top shelf quality, but the interlocking puzzle pieces of Bible trivia in these sessions are really intriguing. Of surety, there is nothing trivial about these details. Thank you

Loved this! Did the idea of God being "in the way" that was mentioned come from a book? If so, what is called?

Thank you for the encouragement! The book Todd is referring to is “Live Not by Lies” by Rod Dreher.

I like the explanation of the transition between old and new, but I don't think it should believed that John wrote his gospel to cater to the needs or answer the doubts of the audience-suggesting fabrication. Rather, the Holy Spirit developed the theme of transition from John's intimate memory, which accomplished the purpose of meeting need and answering doubt's about Jesus being God's Son.

That is the Spirit revealed the theme to John from his own memory, and so the events and words of Jesus were cherry picked to fit the theme, but those events and words were unnecessary for the Synoptics.

This is great Dave! I find myself constantly distracted and re-reading or zoning out when I’m reading, a friend suggested listening and following along reading. I was skeptical that I would continue to zone out instead of following along, but instead I found that I actually comprehended more from the chapter than I typically do by just reading. Everyone has their own hold ups and their learning styles, combining multiple has helped me. This is also a reminder as to why church is so helpful for this, where you can hear the word and follow along, ask questions and have your questions answered, pray, discuss the word with others, and even sing the word!

Amen! That’s a great point about how the times we meet together should be times where we can be saturated with the word of God.

David thanks for the helpful thoughts when it comes to reading the Bible. I especially like the idea of writing down worshipful thoughts as we read and making a summary at the end. I plan on using both. Maybe we are a little alike in the fact that one of my biggest struggles has always been to turn my reading into a Bible study. Which is not a bad thing but I want to be able to purely read without letting my analytical mind go crazy. What’s helped me recently is every time I find a question or something my mind wants to run with like “ I wonder how many times that word is used , hmm what Greek word is used here, wait did Jephthah really sacrifice his daughter, etc “ I just write my question or thought down and then revisit those questions when I sit down for a time to study. This puts my mind at ease understanding that later I will look into those things This along with one of your tips, praying each morning “Lord teach me what you would have me to learn today” have really transformed my Bible reading and really saved it from being derailed into a study on one particular thing. Of course I think the Lord would want us to continue to think critically and want to “dig deeper” but not at the expense of just spending some time hearing the voice of the Lord through His word. Both study and reading are needful in the life of believer. Really appreciate the tips and will be sure to pass the video along.

Glad it was helpful! That is a great idea to write down thoughts when reading so that you can dig into them later and not turn your reading time into a study time.

I also was at Storybook camp when I was 15. Back in 1994. Bill did the exact same thing with me. He seemed to have a knack for recognizing the beginnings of a gift in a person. I got up at lunchtime and butchered the passage on the fear of the Lord, and when I was finished Bill went to the microphone and very graciously clarified for everyone all the things I was trying to say. Good memories from Storybook.....

Wow, opens up a whole aspect of God's Word...thank you David and Moira! It's like touching a part of the brain that isn't touched just by words. Don't know if that makes sense. :)
