@@ClassicMiniProjectsUSA I am doing a aftermarket one soon
@ClassicMiniProjectsUSA4 ай бұрын
Shouldn't be too bad to do. I've had mixed results with some of the aftermarket stuff. Some fit great others don't fit at all.

Personally, I am still sceptical about this central pick-up mod, at least for road cars. I wonder how long before that much smaller intake screen starts to starve the pump of oil. Fine for race and rally cars that experience much higher g forces and are likely to have the engine reworked frequently, but for normal use, it seems like less protection rather than more.
@ClassicMiniProjectsUSA7 ай бұрын
Yea, I personally have never used one . I just installed it, taking the recommendation from others. We will see. The concept seems right who knows
@malcolmcasson357110 ай бұрын
if im replacing rubbers I just cut them out
@ClassicMiniProjectsUSA10 ай бұрын
Yea, that is the easy way to do it. This one fought me pretty bad because it was so brittle, but you can stick a sharp blade in between the windscreen and cut the rubber and the windscreen should fall out

Did yoh feel it is much easier to do the whole heelboard as one piece rhen doing each side repair if the middle part of the heelboard assembly is still good ?
@ClassicMiniProjectsUSA Жыл бұрын
Yea, for sure! I started out with the idea of doing each side and then changed to the whole heel board. The worst part about it was getting off. Once off, it is pretty easy to slap back on.

Nice work, my 61’s about this stage but now on the back burner again as my 85 has just come back from the painters👍
@ClassicMiniProjectsUSA Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yea, I was in the same boat when I had my 81. Anytime it needed work, I would put the 68 on back burner. Then, I decided to sell the 81 to make time for the 68

Nice work, looks like you’ve got gaps on the panels👍
@ClassicMiniProjectsUSA Жыл бұрын
Yea, im still working out all the gaps. I didn't have the wings fully in place. I'm hoping that once everything is welded together, all the gaps close up nicely. It's a big puzzle, for sure. I'm pretty happy with the bonnet gap, hopefully it all looks nice when I'm done

Did you remove the transfer gear roller bearing? I was waiting for that at the very end? My bearing puller catches on the needles so I don't wand to damage the casing using the slide hammer.
@ClassicMiniProjectsUSA Жыл бұрын
Yes I did I used a blind bearing puller it worked well

You can heat the aluminum a bit and it makes it easier to pull

@@ClassicMiniProjectsUSA Thanks, I managed to find a socket with a similar diameter and used that to get it started, then after I moved it about 5+mm I carefully drifted it out using a punch. Cheers from Down Under.

Before you weld in the rear strengthen mounts in the boot you need to get the heel board in place. You could just tec screw it in place but get the subframe up and make sure the frame mounts into place before welding in place. Brushable seam Sealer is a good friend for the roapy areas of welding 😆. Braver man than me removing a boot floor. 👏. Great work

@@ClassicMiniProjectsUSA they make the magnum panels just down the way from me. They are a rubbish fit but do the job, kind of. I only wish I bought heritage front wings and front panel.
@ClassicMiniProjectsUSA Жыл бұрын
I got magnum for some of the stuff that you couldn't see. Some of it fits ok, and some of it fits horribly. Mini sport was having a huge sale on heritage back in the summer so I got a lot of heritage for the outside bits like the wings and stuff.

Seam sealer is going to be your and my best friend for hiding the welds on the rear bulk head to boot floor panel. But at least it's plenty of strength!

@TheColinf1 Жыл бұрын
Just double check the quarter panel drip rail panel, normally they are on the inside of the boot floor closing panel inside the companion bin. If you have it all welded in place maybe grind it back so your heelboard sits flush with the boot floor and closers.
@ClassicMiniProjectsUSA Жыл бұрын
You are correct! And thanks for pointing that out. Mine had homemade closing panels that were welded from the inside. And I notice the issue as soon as I tried to stick the heel board on. I'm going to have to figure something out but it has been too cold to get in the garage as of late
