beautiful singing and great song thanks! I have been learning this song on my guitar this morning and after two hours I had finally finished and I stood up and a sparrow landed on the deck in front of me and our glass doors. They never land there, my first thoughts were just "hello sparrow" and then it dawned on me !!! This message is for everyone who thinks or feels that God is not watching over them, He is. Whatever you are going through is is always there for you.

"God rest you (May God keep you safe)" was a common way of wishing someone well, and "merry" ("worthy") was just a compliment to those present, the singers and listeners. The lyrics are not about maintaining feudalism, or whatever. It's actually pretty much the opposite of that. The song was an invitation to celebrate, outside of formal Mass. That very idea was a revolution unto itself, at a time when most people could not read, or understand Latin, which gave the clergy control over information, and thus over people.
