I bought this bike used in 89 and it was absolutely the best ride I've ever owned! Had it several years and economics forced me to have to sell it. For the time, it was ballistically fast. If I had one regret in life..

imagine that, a very quick & beautifull bike going by your house without drowning out the tv.its amazing how many mistakingly equate noise with power.hell harley made an image out of a error.

I bought a ZL in 87! Brand new! My last year in the Navy. Loved that thing! Gobs of power! VMax only thing comparable. I sold it in 92 for damned near the price I paid for it.

kawasaki should make a new eliminator with the motor of the zzx1400...that would be a beast,,,like suzuki making an eliminator type bike with the hayabusa 1300cc motor..another beast.

I look forward to taking mine (1987 ZL1000 Eliminator) out of winter storage. But even then, I will patiently wait for the salty, sand, gravel to be washed away with the spring rains. And, even worse this year, patiently wait for the NYS roads to be repaved, and not just patching of the patched patches. It is time to move south - and have a longer riding season too.

There was a time when the complaint was that Japanese Cruisers didn't look like Harleys. I think these days the complaint is that Japanese Cruisers don't look like Japanese Crusiers. Those ZL's were monsters. Too bad you didn't show all it was capable of. My favorites of the era were the later 750 Magnas, the 1100 Sabres, and the Eliminators.

exexpat11 great choices, era of the shaft drives and twin engine for the sabre i think, took zl1000 for a test drive wen i was 18, tried to full throttle it an felt like arms were gonna leave my shoulder sockets lol. zl claimed 0-100 km in 2.7 secs! only vmax could match it back then.
