Is light wrangler inspired by Houdini Solaris interactive light placement, or is Houdini Solaris inspired by light wrangler? 🔥
@kaiserm216 күн бұрын
Not sure where this originated exactly but this has also been in Cinema4D for a long time 😃
@leonidaltman5 күн бұрын
@@zurasaur Haha, I hadn’t heard of that feature in Houdini before, so I’ll definitely take a closer look. It seems like a really well-designed workflow. The original idea actually came from HDRI Light Studio, which lets you do something similar-not with real lights, but by creating a 360 HDRI in a similar automatic fashion. So yeah, that’s where the idea came from, but I wanted to implement it with actual light objects in Blender.

@Leonid Altman Fantastic! One addition that could be useful is an auto naming feature based on lights' relative position/angle to the active camera. When you've set up your lights and hit Auto-Name, any light within "Lights" collection get renamed, e.g. Light.Key.001, Light.Fill.001, Light.Rim.001. Perhaps a more generic scheme that designates their physical location compared to the target object (product) would be more flexible, e.g. Light.Back.Upper.Left.001 and so on. (Not a studio light-expert so this idea may very well be total crap! But hey, great ideas will rarely pop up until passing through piles of crappy ones.) I guess the purpose of this one is to first let the user be mindless of naming the lights and yet have trackability by their names in operations like importing and reusing lights from other setups.
@leonidaltman22 күн бұрын
Great idea! An auto-naming feature could definitely help with organization in complex setups. I’ll consider it for future updates. Thanks for the input.

Also you can reduce the number of light by rendering a HDR with the addon and use it for the basic lighting. Use the HDR as BG and set it to only seen in reflections. Then come the detail lights. But best advice is always: "Less is more!" Takes a bit more fiddling but most of the times a better outcome and less clutter in the scene.

@@supagulley87 This plugin mainly simplifies various light operations, such as modifying their appearance and improving ease of positioning. These tutorials are super helpful. I am juggling between purchasing this or the new light studio add on. I think seeing these tutorials and guides and the easy amends to the lights in the viewport via the use of the scroll wheel and keys might be the decider for me. Affordable, but I want to stick with one lighting app, so I can get familiar with the hotkeys and then concentrate on lighting and not working out how to use the thing. looks awesome, thank you

@@tomcollins6989 I don’t know much about the Light Studio add-on. In my opinion, it looks very average, speaking as a Blender add-on developer myself. As for the Light Wrangler add-on, what can I say? It offers many useful features, tons of different light textures, and the developer’s strong commitment to improving and gathering user feedback. That’s what I can promise.
