Safety first! Tie your hair before using any machinery and never push a piece of wood on the table saw with your bare hands on top of the spinning blade. You're one slip away from getting seriously injured.

Structurally, the second half holds only on two glue lines on the horizontal stretcher. I'd ditch the screws entirely and use some longish dowels going between the two halves through the stretcher.

I live in the UK, and I can't get a hold of SXE425 (the version you're are using) as it is discontinued here. It has a 5" disc, so it is perfect for me compared to the newer model which has a 6." Are you able to share where you purchased yours from?

My 150 Festool gave up the ghost and it proved very hard to get parts. I bought this sander above the other brands because it seemed well built. It is a little more expensive than makita teal but I have other Metabo gear and some of them have been great especially the drills and grinders. It would appear this sander has reached the same standard of those tools. The only downside is the weight compared to the Festool sander but seeing I don’t do any overhead sanding, it is perfect. It has the choice of changing the orbit from 3 mm to 6mm giving you the option of fast removal and finer work with very little vibration. It is a very well built machine and the finish quality is a reflection of the Metabo engineering.
