Thanks for the message! As for the $40 - that is the real price but you have to venmo us directly (our website doesn’t have commerce checkout). Here’s why (logistics): when you order direct through our email, I go onto my Amazon author’s page and it sends you a copy from them to you using their shipping. A signed copy is one I have here that had to be shipped to me (to sign), then out to you. The $5 is for the extra shipping step. I have a six point rapport chart that goes from 0 to 5 from hostile to elated. You can raise this by taking actions that fit with the alignment of the witness or lower it by acting against them and their goals There is a general rule of rapport across the community and a specific rapport with an individual non-player character that I as the narrator generally keep This rapport role goes even to party companions, man, and beast . If you can’t keep your beast companions rapport high then they will first begin to disobey and eventually once hostile seek to leave Have as many companions as you want, but due to work to keep them happy or you won’t have any at all

For resource management I check and see if characters have assured access to water and that they have at least 1 pound of good food per day per person If they don’t have proper food, water, safety, and a comfortable place to rest out of the weather than when they do the rest, they only get the minimum amount of recovery

Here's some issues I've found with the "2 actions per turn" game design concept (even outside of ICRPG): It undermines the value of heavier weapons, that in theory take 2 actions to strike as the tradeoff for bigger damage. If I can make 2 attacks with a regular weapon, why bother lugging around the slower, inventory hog? At the same time, it could negate the idea of faster weapons, a conceptual double dagger attack with a special 'two attacks per turn' is meaningless (all weapons can attack twice), and 'two attacks per action' become OP with a potential of 4 attacks per turn. Also, what about enemies-do they get 2 attacks too? If not, it becomes unbalanced. If they do, it just turns into everyone gunning for attacking twice, which raises the question: what's the point? Countering or special ruling all of those factors can become messier than just separating and limiting the actions/moves - and I think these are at least some of the reasons so many games make the super clear distinction of move + attack vs 2 actions. This heavily playtested concept (move + attack) goes back to at least HeroQuest. Regardless, it's an interesting one to wrestle with.
@Alloyed-RPG2 ай бұрын
I agree that 2 attacks are not good. This is more for advocating 1 attack + 1 ‘small’ action (other than an attack). Either way, we’ve pretty much streamlined all of it with Alloyed RPG Core Rules 2.2. Enjoy and have a great week!
@Cadillacula2 ай бұрын
@@Alloyed-RPG Very cool, and thanks for the year-later-spark (and the response!) -- I struck gold in my own TTRPG design endeavors by actually going with 1 action per turn, an action is an action is an action. And then special circumstances (like charging attacks, fast characters) may introduce an extra action of a specific type and things like heavy weapons may simply cost 2 'turns' to recover/reload. So far so good! --May your rules be simple and your players epic!
@mikeymoose19862 ай бұрын
Bit of necromancy here! In my games, I've always tried to implement the following: first we establish initiative, then I ask everyone what they plan to do, and then we start resolving in order, and I try to synthesize all the actions and describe the round in its totality if possible. Players can even pre-roll some stuff. It only works with few actors (players and/or aversaries), and it's kinda taxing on the DM, but I find that it's worth it to create immersion and lessen the feeling that we're playing a turn based game. There's still loading up front, but when we get to describing what happens in the fiction, that's dynamic and chaotic. So I recommend it if the GM feels they can make it work.

I've read the corebook and I got some questions: 1) How do you define percentages for hard actions? I can look up to AC in DnD modules to define standart difficulty, but some examples for percentage calculation woul be nice thing to add in the book. 2) Aging mechanic. What if character is an elf, or some kind of robot, or some other creature that didn't age much? How do you explain to the players why their characters looses hitpoints and would eventually die, despite their choice? 3) How do you counter repeated actions? Like, difficulty of chest opening is 15. Why rogue cant just roll dice until he got the result? In ICRPG we got a timer and things got worse if you take to long to deal with it. In Cyberpunk you can't repeat the roll until you improve your chances. In DnD we can just take 20 if nothing is interrupting players. How do you deal with it in your games?
@Alloyed-RPG3 ай бұрын
Great questions. I’ll try to take them in order. 1. Alloyed RPG is “DM-centric”, not player-centric. In published campaigns, percentages are given where appropriate. In homebrew and on the fly, percentages are determined by the DM as he/she calls it from assessing the situation and characters involved. 2. Aging - it takes a long time to get there. Even if you roll perfectly for additional HP at the end of every campaign, it would take about 20 campaigns to drop to zero. No ‘god-like’ character paths in Alloyed RPG - everyone dies eventually (and robots rust :)). 3. You only get 1 Action per Turn, so yes, the rogue can keep cracking on the safe but will be using each turn to do it (meanwhile, a lot can happen during Rounds between turns). Like ICRPG, play is clockwise, so the DM (playing for monsters and NPCs) will be in the mix as well. Hope that answers your questions! Thanks for checking it out and enjoy the game. Have an excellent week.

I think the d4 is for adding a little more time. For example: They need to push a switch at the end of the room There is a group of mobs between them, so they engage, drop at least 1 mob and the next turn they can run to the switch. So it's 2 turns + d4 Also, thanks for the vid. I played dnd and we need to enter a fortress, but our DM throw every enemy on us. It was a TPK and dragged 4 hours of pure combat. Question on how other GM handle follow ups. So if my player misses the target on an action, I tend to use a soft move where their missed action created a consequence. To my fellow GMs do you do this? If you do, do you let the player immediately follow up or move to the next player?

the reason i like icrpg hearts! luke gygax did an interview on dungeon craft, he talked about the games with his father as a young man and believes that there may have been a time when gary gygax the father of dnd fudged a dice roll or two so his son could enjoy a victory, a heart warming story of father and son. professor dungeon master has admitted to changing the hp of a monster on the fly for difficulty and story reasons if a monster has 4d6+3 hp there is a lot of wiggle room and i find it tempting to insert my judgement for the same reasons the heart system keeps me honest, if you beat the target ill tell you the hearts of everything in the room ironically the very simple heart system is seen by my group as the more hardcore option now you could do the same thing with traditional hp it would just take a little longer and I'm lazy
@Alloyed-RPG7 ай бұрын
Good explanation. I’m still old school in that I like straight HP. With Alloyed RPG, we streamlined HP and also added an ‘aging’ mechanism for PCs by which their HP declines after reaching 100.

I spent a ton of years playing dungeon world and i think mixing icrpg and DW is a match made in combat. We roll the horde as a group hitting together. Base mob stat plus 1 for each additional mob on to hit and damage. 4 gobbos roll d20+4 (+1 mob stat, +1 for each additional mob). Fewer rolls and book keeping.
@Alloyed-RPG7 ай бұрын

It's only MAX HP that's simplified. A more pure implementation of Hankerin's idea is the hit system used in EZD6 and Viking Death Squad. I'm tempted to switch to that, but I have more studying to do on it before deciding.

In the rpg I'm designing there are three "stats": Soldier, Scholar and Spy. Each represents physical, emotional, mental and spiritual attributes inherent in their development. A character with high Soldier not only is athletic, but also has his emotions in check, knows about weapons, equipment, certain animals (hounds, hawks, horses), and even knows some battle magic (if only to intimidate or paralyze for a moment a foe). My rpg design only involves four levels of power (like ICRPG). I haven't bought IC yet, but now plan to do so. Thanks!

7:02 "comment below...two actions?" No. I don't even like the double dash. Double dashes ruins chase mechanics. I think you should be able to run and hit someone (HARD roll perhaps). I don't think you should be able to trade swinging your arm for an additional NEAR move. I think running (move action) and tackling (action) is part of USA football and Rugby, and this is how your TTRPG should work. In really, all turns get one Action, and you can move up to NEAR as part of your action.

Not an alignment fan. Personally it just leads to more arguments/delaying discussion than it fixes IMHO. Especially if 'the rules' that they are following or breaking aren't written out, understood, and mutually agreed upon. For example, a 'letter of the law' player, playing a [ 1 ] Good / Follows the Rules character will never kill a hostage. Another [ 1 ] Good / Follows the Rules character's player may say it is 'Good' to kill a [ 4 ] Bad Rules Breaker. Another [ 1 ] might say a 'Bad' person who is Following the Rules is bound to eventually Break the Rules and kill them, are they no longer a [ 1 ]? These are 'the rules' I initially spoke of, not game rules, but setting rules, or 'laws'. Then add in all the morality issues and questions, for example, are the Goblins raiding farmers fields "Bad" if they're doing it to feed their families? They are not members of society, so are they "Breaking the Rules" per se? I say, let the players portray their characters from scene to scene as they want. (I guess I am True Neutral) If you want to steer play, introduce ramifications for actions you want to address. Players take no prisoners? Enemies hear about them and fight to the death, possibly getting a bonus, for the added knowledge that if they don't they will surely die. Play a Cleric NPC that won't help them, so they'll have to see if the young scribe might have picked up some skill and might be incentivized to assist instead. As for feeding and Supplies, there is already Supply rules sprinkled throughout the book. If you have the PDF, do a search and you can bounce through them. One of my biggest gripes of ME is they were never consolidated and refined.

Good work Steve! I would absolutely agree with you about the home brew comment. Maybe the first few sessions I ever played we stuck "closely" to the rules but some mechanics seemed clunky and others just didn't seem to fit our group so we quickly morphed the rules into what works best for us. Folks will have their own tastes when it comes to TTRPGs but I have always enjoyed the story telling over the bogged down fighting system and gravitate towards the simpler fighting mechanics that move quickly through combat so the story can continue.
