Could a devastating encounter with an unusually rank 'Smelly Oyster' have been the Catalyst that drove Sir Elton down the path of becoming a 'Dirt Track Specialist'? one wonders...have heard of this phenomenon before!

Listen to the bass line by Dee Murray. I t's melodic, fast, bright and inspirational. Dee, playing his White Fender Precision Bass on this song is why I took up the bass guitar. Rest in peace Dee, I miss you.

A fabulous musician who sadly channeled his music through bubblegum POP. He was always better than that.

I always felt this sounded like a song that the Bee Gees would have made back then. I love these early cuts of Elton's, there was a purity and vulnerability in his vocal performance as he was trying to find a niche of his own. Fabulous orchestration and great lyrics by Bernie. ❤

Ronnie- are you sure this was broadcast on wabc-fm? In NYC, there was a wabc-am, but no wabc-fm. Wabc-am was known for being the first nyc station to play the Beatles in the early 1960s, but by 1970 they were playing top ten pop hits, and likely would not play a concert like this. Dave Herman was a dj on wnew-fm, which was a rock album oriented station, which is where this concert was likely broadcast.

Was this a demo for other acts to hear, or an actual single for Elton? I cannot stop listening to it...I love it more than TDN's rendition. Props to Caleb Quaye on guitar...he was shredding the hell out of that axe 🎸
