Nah... it's still inescapable. I grew up in Cayo Hueso (Key West) which is 90 miles from Havana. I love this music. For life.

Interesting. So the man who normally plays the woman's part gets to make all the decisions. Hmmm...

I enjoyed every minute of this documentary. The showbands brought Ireland into the modern era. It's a shame that sectarian violence ended this wonderful era. This is a story that must never be forgotten. Thank you for uploading it.

I was a teenager living in Birkenhead, England in the early ‘60’s & I remember one of the show bands appearing at the Technical College there - there was a very high Irish immigrant population living there - My paternal line was Irish.

As a young person growing up in Ireland during the 60s and 70s I thoroughly enjoyed the show bands and dances, I never experienced any interference by the Catholic Church as described in this video during that time.

Anne Cadwallader posits in Lethal Allies that one reason the Miami Showband was attacked was that Loyalist and Nationalists could mingle, dance, and be on the same level in the Dancehalls. She states that this was anathema to the gang who attacked the Miami Showband. This makes more sense to me than the commonly accepted motive of framing the showband for terrorism

Yes they could but things were changing depends on your age and identity how you feel about these times this is a generalised view and a lot of people identify with it

Love this video, brought me back to happy and wonderful days but also to the reality of Ireland, a terrible beauty which however has brought us to where we are to day.

Thanks for the memories. Wonderful days. When only 8 years old, I used to squeeze into the the hall at the Rhinka Ballroom in Islandmagee to watch the happenings for half an hour or so. I missed all this when I moved to England and everyone else there thought I was square. They never experienced and it was their loss. The showband phenomenon united us all in Ireland as did Ruby Murray.

I was 14 years old first time i heared. Pretty normal age in Patagonia to start to drink. Remember to be with a couple of friends drinking some pisco, when the uncle of one of them comes and put this album. Just blow our minds, we cant stop to meet weekends to hear this beauty in a little atelier and drink self made cocktails. Beutiful memories from those rainy long winter nights

find a music store with the proper size reel to reel . I worked in a guitar shop years ago and we always had one or two. Ask if they’d be willing to check it out with you. There are also online companies that will convert it to a digital copy. Then if it’s something good, I’d email the record labels that put out current reissue pressings of them.
