That's what using an underpowered jigging rod for the size jig you are using ....looks like. Rod doesn't reload.
@CHOPSUEYFISHING27 күн бұрын
That rod was rated for a 250g jig, the jig I was using was a 240g jig. So I wouldn't say it was underpowered.
@bryantculler34688 күн бұрын
@@CHOPSUEYFISHING Definitely underpowered then. jig ratings on rods don't mean for "all depths". I would never use a rod rated for a max of 250g in 700ft of water regardless of the weight of the jig I was using. You can still catch fish but you aren't getting the jig action you could with a heavier rod.
@CHOPSUEYFISHING7 күн бұрын
@bryantculler3468 yea that was all I had for an spj rod on that trip. I use what I'm comfortable with,with the jigs I use and they work fine. We have ones that are a bit heavier,but on these trips we have so much gear already,there is no room to bring 3 extra spj rods. Lol

@flnative75534 ай бұрын
unfortunately we dont get the big yellow fins Louisiana and blue that the northern Atlantic guys get. We are stuck with the black fins and they average 20 lbs with the bigger ones at 30. Plus its hard to just pinpoint them on a trip, we get plenty just not any size to them.
@CHOPSUEYFISHING4 ай бұрын

Nice vid and a good representation of what I was looking for. Looks like you made the best of it. I have a trip planned specifically to catch tuna and this gives me a good feel for equipment and conditions. Not impressed by that Capt tho. So I know which boat to stay away from. He was on my nerves thru the screen..lol. Nice camera work and thanks for sharing
@CHOPSUEYFISHING4 ай бұрын
Thanks! And it is an awesome experience. Once you find the dolphins,you are guaranteed tons of tuna. We could've gotten more if we didn't spend a lot of time trolling to Marlins, which is better around the US winter time,if you Marlin. But the crew on this boatbwas pretty top notch,but I'm sure most of them are out of Costa Rica.

Great mangos, what you guys use for bait and what size do hook?
@CHOPSUEYFISHING3 ай бұрын
Thanks. I use a 4/0 circle hook usually for snapper, offshore. We were getting them on cut sardines mostly.
@russbolton9476 ай бұрын
Awesome. I notice no trolling motor. Yall generally drift when you are deep dropping so that the boat drifts with the baits? Or is it more of a strategy to cover more ground? How deep do you generally find these fish?
@CHOPSUEYFISHING3 ай бұрын
Yea, we love the trolling motors, but they always break for most people we know with them. We always usually just drift these spots, and it helps us cover more ground and mark new spots around it. We just keep drifting the spot until it slows down then onto the next. We generally find the queens from 500ft to 800ft.
