That's how he should have ridden him in the champion hurdle - let momentum take him into the lead and then a few nudges after the last. People defend his ride in that race but he was actively restraining him until the last 50 yards. He gave him time to respond here and it showed, maybe only a length but that's all he would have needed. A better chance than doing nothing, anyway.

Lovely Horse owned by Mr Buckley.. He dropped these Colours after a run of Tragedy with some of his horses. He is of Course the owner of the Great Constitution Hill.

Damn, I didn't know that.

Yes Very True I Remember a horse Called Zetas Son being Killed years Before but in the 5 Years around when Mutare was running he Lost some very Good Horses including a potential Superstar called The Proclamation.
@theracingdemon31416 сағат бұрын
@ I read an article about The Proclamation. I think he owned Tinryland as well, during the mid-90s. Did Buckley also own Prince Rock? Similar colours there.
@richardcoombe15945 сағат бұрын
Yes Tinryland and Billy Bathgate (not the Northern Horse of recent years) and not sure but Possibly Prince Rock but I do recall Prince rock with a Red Cap..... Laterly Finians Rainbow ran in his New Colours

What is the commentator talking about saying Sharastani in 3rd who was finishing well ? He hit the front before Bering passes him and even got pipped for 3rd so the commentator is on the piss i think as is Oaksey saying Pat Eddery should be closer to the pace when he just needs to track the ONLY danger Bering which Pat did.

My Opinion was that he Would have won that gold Cup hadn't he Tragically tipped up breaking a rear leg His owner Basil Thwaites also owned Dramatist and Bonum Omen prior to Ten Plus passed away about a year after That Gold Cup.

What was the origins of the green/red breaches and caps? I have zero recollection of them. Also; Peter Buchanan was a smashing jockey. As the years went on he became a bit of a marathon chase specialist. Obviously wasn't short of fitness.

What a travesty. Two horses side by side. One became a triple champion hurdler and the other didn't win one. But for that episode at 85 Champion at start and subsequently being killed by a foal worm, we would probably have been looking at Brownes Gazette as a triple champion. So sad. Golden Cygnet and Brownes Gazette, both unfulfilled careers. But they showed enough before they died to be allowed a place amongst the best.

Bob's Return...part of my makeup in life, Happy days, missed my flight back to the UK after this day. Took my chick out in central Paris that night, ordered a magnificent seafood platter, which cost a small fortune. She then told me " I don't like fish "! . I have never ate so much fish, to avoid embarrassment! So impressed, that i married her & we are still together some 30 odd years later! Bless Bob, never forget him.

Had backed Highland Bud ante post, topping up through the winter. Fire service pumped water off the course to allow racing to go ahead. Horse ran a blinder to get up for second. Fair play to Ikdam who absolutely loved conditions. Bye bye money 🤷🏻♂️

Wonderful horses, and jockeys , great memories with Goode and Oakseys commentary. Just as with the Bbc and o sullivan , wilson and Hanmer, definately a now lost golden era. Today with even park fence courses being softer, trainer, big owner, monopolies etc its just not the same alas
