I’ve been wanting to see this for so long! I love Love Never Dies so much! The ending to this version is so perfect!
@kaylovesdisney45822 ай бұрын
While I loved the London production (and still do) I definitely think the ending has improved since then. They were just bringing in the Love Never Dies Reprise (sung by The Phantom) when i saw it in London, which was already a big improvement on how the ending played out previously. I can never understand though why there is no Phantom makeup in productions after London. It really makes a difference.

Thanks for uploading this! Didn't know there was a revised version of these two songs until I listened to it by accident on Spotify recently. But I love both versions and especially love how impactful both are in different ways during "Beautiful" - the OG with the "10 years old" realization and the newer one with the iconic (slightly tweaked) Phantom melody

Just watching this again, this time I was paying more attention to Erik’s Trio here… Gangle, Fleck and Squelch…if they’ve since changed their names someone inform me. I love how they all dramatically bow to Erik like he is their freaking King or something 😆 and as soon as Gustave starts playing you can see them whispering to each other…they picked up on the fact that Gustave was Eriks kid pretty dang quickly. Which just cements my belief that Raoul was either in serious denial, or just plain stupid (which for the record I DON’T think he was) not to see it.

Christine’s ‘Regret Song’ as I like to call it…this whole song is really just to showcase how her perspective on things has so completely shifted since her youth at the Paris Opera. “Loves a curious thing, it often comes disguised. Look at love the wrong way, it goes unrecognized.” -her love for the Phantom went ‘unrecognized’ because she didn’t understand it at the time. He wasn’t what she had pictured as a love interest…and he frankly scared her in more ways then one “love is not always beautiful” etc “Love you misunderstand, is love that you’ll regret…”-she misunderstood her love for Raoul and now she regrets it in a lot of ways. She idolized him as her Prince Charming and loved him with the innocent love of a girl, when she matured however, she outgrew Prince Charming and therefore outgrew Raoul. “Look with your heart and not with your eyes…” -This is beyond just the obvious ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’, this is more ‘don’t let your eyes blind you to where your heart truly lies’ Raoul looked like her romantic ideal, but her heart told her the truth every time she reacted to the Phantoms music, to his voice. ❤ This song goes a lot deeper than people give it credit for.

I’m loving Manon’s Christine, I want to see this whole dang show with her now! Like if you have a clip of that moment where she confesses to Erik that Gustave is his child do share it please! Luke and Manon might be turning into my 2nd favorite LND’s Phantom/Christine pair after Ramin and Sierra! I love their chemistry 😍 Manon’s Christine definitely has more then a little hint of darkness to her, much like Sierra’s Christine (my personal favorite) she has that same dark edge and that is my personal FAVORITE interpretation of Christine. It makes her a bit more of a match with Erik, that deep inside their was always more to her then the sweet little ingenue everyone else thought her to be, but Erik always saw it…and that it was not just her voice that drew him to her, she is his true soulmate in every way. ❤ I’m not a fan of Disney Princess Christine or hopelessly innocent damsel in distress Christine, she can be so much more interesting a character than that! And Manon’s Christine definitely feels on Eriks same wavelength here, I love her mischievous smile when he praises her, and I have to say that peacock blue dress looks way better on her then Anne O Byrne! , It suits Manon’s complexion a lot better…she looks like Eriks Gothic Queen and I love it 😆

Poor Meg trying so hard to please a man who will never love her. I think their is a real double meaning to this song ‘Only for You’ because everything she does is ‘Only For Erik’ but everything he does is ‘Only For Christine’. In fact I’d argue that Phantasma only came about because deep down in his soul he is desperate to feel worthy of Christine. He left her because he didn’t feel worthy of her, he felt ashamed of what he was…a deformed man on the run from the law unable to take care of her the way he feels she deserves. Phantasma came about out of his desire to make himself worthy, and now he owns practically all of Coney Island.

You are on a roll with these clips, I think all we are missing now is Luke’s ‘Till I Hear You Sing’ wink wink 😉 I’ll admit I’m still getting used to the massive changes they made to ‘The Beauty Underneath’, I don’t hate the changes, I’ve just jammed out to the original version so much over the years it’s weird hearing the new version. 😆 Now I absolutely LOVE the change they made to the beginning of it where Gustave unknowingly plays ‘The Phantom of the Opera Melody’ …that is a much more POWERFUL moment to make Erik realize he is his son rather then TEN YEARS OLLLLLLLD! 😂 It adds an almost poetic element to it, as the ‘Phantom song’ was where we first see the almost mystical connection the Phantom and Christine share in the Original Show where they are in perfect osmosis with each other, finishing each others lines, and the Phantom pushing Christine to sing better then she’s ever sung before. It is really THEIR song and since Gustave is literally a mixture of them both, it’s fitting he both plays it (Erik) and sings his mothers part (Christine) he’s both of them ❤ and that is what tips off Erik that Gustave is his son.

THANK YOU! 🥰 Oh I love this scene so much, I LOVE how she smiles, an almost giddy little smile when she first hears him “My Christine, what a triumph you gave me tonight!”…he’ll always be her Teacher and Idol and she just gets such joy out of knowing she pleased him. Then her acknowledging to herself how much she missed singing, “…and I felt beautiful” that always struck me because what Christine is basically saying here is she hasn’t felt beautiful in 10 years…and it’s more then just Raoul treating her coldly, it’s the fact that she married into a upper class society that frankly wouldn’t take kindly to Raoul taking a Opera Singer for a wife. If I had to hazard a guess Christine was probably made to feel like trash from Raoul’s family and the society around her for the past 10 years. But now she’s back in HER world, a world of performers and her Angel of Music whom worships the ground she walks on so yes…she feels beautiful again, she feels loved again..she’s back in her element. Gah I just love this scene, and that kiss is just beautiful…you can just feel how much they love each other! One of the things I’m so glad they added during the Australia run. ❤

I have to say this Song and this Moment is probably my favorite moment for Christine’s Character in both POTO and LND combined! I don’t feel enough Phans truly appreciate what this moment is…it’s Christine finally coming into her own freaking agency, for once! It’s Christine finally taking charge of her own life for a change and doing something she wants to do, not what anybody is forcing or guilt tripping her into doing. It’s goes much deeper than her just choosing between The Phantom and Raoul, it’s about who is truly letting her fly and who is trying to hold her back. It’s about Christine realizing her love for music never died, her love for singing never died even though she ‘tried to deny it and tried to protest’…after 10 years of being muted she found herself again. I just love how Manon tears up during this song ❤ because the sheer happiness Christine must feel to be singing again would probably drive her to tears, it’s beautiful.

One thing I love about this version is how the dancing girls all excitedly run to Christine and Meg is immediately forgotten, it really encapsulates Megs situation doesn’t it? Forever in Christine’s shadow…even though once upon a time they were both nobodies together, the Phantom chose Christine to be his Muse and he turned her into a star, and even though Meg has given her all for him for the past 10 years he still won’t give her the time of day, and replaces her as soon as Christine shows up. Now I don’t think Erik truly did anything wrong as he never once led Meg on (that was Madam Giry giving her daughter false hope) but when one views it from Megs perspective it’s heartbreaking…I could almost picture Meg singing Lucy’s Song ‘Who I Am’ from Jekyll and Hyde, because that song easily captures what Meg also probably feels 😢

I love how they have Christine reach for his mask and him fearfully shying away from her right before he goes into the reason why he left her, but that moment really summarized with that one action why…his insecurity…before he even needed to say a word. The thing is, when Christine reaches for his mask she is doing it out of love, not cruelty…she wants to see HIM, she wants that intimacy with him, but after a lifetime of being rejected for his face, that fear is not something easily overcome, and he sabotaged his own happiness out of that fear.

This was beautiful, I love how he starts singing ‘Love Never Dies’ before he turns around and actually looks at Gustave, as though he’s remembering what Christine told him and that he knows she wouldn’t want him to kill himself which it what he was contemplating here…and that Gustave is that little piece of Christine that pulls him back and reminds him. Thanks for posting, I’m loving what I’m seeing of this cast. 🙂 If you don’t mind me asking…do you happen to have a clip of ‘Ah Christine’ which is after she sings Love Never Dies and they share that moment before they realize Gustave is missing, could you post it?
