Was fun racing you both again. Nice to end season at NJMP on a sunny day. We weren’t much of a threat, alas, but at least you had team Dune Bucket to keep you busy. I think me and Alex had a pretty big gap to next group behind us so we just had fun trying to push each other along and see if we could squeak off a couple more tenths. Alex managed to get 44.0 on both karts but we weren’t able to break into 43s. Could be that I’ve gotten too fat!

You don't seem to have as much trouble getting #6 to turn here. You definitely give much more steering input for right vs left, but ultimately still turns. For my final I was stomping on the brakes, throwing my weight around, jerking left before a right turn to try to slide, etc. Anything to tame the beast and it just wasn't happening for me 😅

@@nikspeeds that might be a body placement thing. I did notice 6 was harder to turn in finals. You can see me run off a bit once in the sharp right to back fast bit exit in finals. Can’t make out why 10 spun. It could be that he got tapped but it also could be that he just kept angle in too long and turned himself. It’s definitely less of a shitshow without the mg reds up front but it’s still a place where folks go round with angle in and throttle on exit.

Perhaps you are correct. It seems to me that he didn’t straighten out and the back decided to say au revoir suddenly. Perhaps he was trying to avoid kart left and rather than reducing throttle, kept it pinned and just snap spun. Yellow helmet didn’t hit him and neither did left kart, as far as I can see.

Interesting that I would have assumed for Kamau to have 49s run, he'd have the corners much more dialed in. And even with #10 here seeming to have more top end than your kart (unless there's that much weight difference). You catch right back up every time you separate. Nice job!
@dominiquecallan1482 ай бұрын
@@nikspeeds thanks! I’m 170 and I think he’s around 160 so not that significant. We both made plenty of mistakes though! He does brake a bit earlier where I was tapping him, so maybe he’s got better time through that section. I was playing with being less rotationally lifty there in finals when I had track to myself. While he did seem to have better top end, perhaps I had more midrange. I’d catch him in corners a lot but he’d make hay in the higher speed bits. The karts are all so tired it’s hard to draw any meaningful comparisons.

@nikspeeds2 ай бұрын

Enjoyed the video! Any tips you have for anyone new to this. I have a team and we are having our first race later this year so anything helps 😂
@dominiquecallan1482 ай бұрын
Mostly it's organizational stuff. Understand the rules specific to the race. How many stops do you have to make... where do you have to stop when pitting out and in... when do pits close and reopen... it's helpful to create a spreadsheet where you sort of plot it out, on a simple level, divide out the stops into the time. Account for length of stop. So, in our 6hrs we have 15 stops 2 of which are fuel. The fuel stops are 5 mins. Avoid battling. It's slow, you just want to get as many laps in. Don't fight if not necessary. If a faster guy is on you instead of holding them back, follow them and use their wake to get through traffic. If you find someone of similar pace draft them. Work together and worry about winning the race with an hour to go or less. Comfort is imoortant. Make sure to have sufficient water and importantly hydration supplements for your water. Don't underestimate heatstroke and exhaustion. In this race, my son shown here had to drop. In my team, one of my drivers also had to drop due to heatstroke. Ambulance came three times for other guys as well. Shade, hydration, folding chairs, etc. Prepare and be comfortable. Races are a lot less painful in the cooler months or indoors obviously. If it's your first enduro I'd recommend 3 min for a 6hr race. 4 will be easier. But as you get used to it duo becomes very doable. If you are eastern coast USA a magical race is the 6hr of Atlanta, at AMP in Nov. Utterly gorgeous bucket list track. forums.kartpulse.com/t/rebel-scum-endurance-karting-6-hrs-of-atl/11405?u=bimodal_rocket These guys do very good races: www.procupkarting.com/ As you get more experienced in it, how and when you stop matters. We won the NJ race and our strategy involved burning stops early and going longer at end. Beware that this can bite you in the butt. Heat can make that a problem (Andre, our hot shoe, conked out after his long first heat). Also, you can have mechanicals which might put you up a stop due to forced pit. So leave margin for error. Also, be flexible. If someone needs to stay out for longer if pits are crowded or something, play it by ear.
