I still can't believe I saw Jerry play for a quid at the Bowling Green in Stockport. Total chance, he knew the owner or something. Anyway, I'd been an advocate of Guitar Player magazine for ages. The little floppy vinyl thing that was stapled to the front of the cover brought me to The Beak and the Claw. I had worked so hard with the tablature and weeks and months later here I was in a pub with Jerry. He was buying a pint at the bar and I said ..."big fan". Such a moronic thing to say. I have never forgiven myself.

I bought the Return of the Hellecasters when it came out and this tune was on there, totally agree that this is some of the finest playing by Jerry Donahue, he is a phenomenal player! Thanks for posting this version/ cut of this iconic jerry reed tune, simply jaw-dropping string bending here!

I picked up the chart book from this cd in a guitar shop years ago. The tab for this track was a black page. It literally looked like a redacted CIA document.

I saw that too! -Was so blown away, I felt inspired to go and buy a Telecaster!- I regret not doing that....Shame he’s kinda forgotten.

I even shaken his hand in 1993 but it did not help , I still remained a barely average .guitarist.

There was a full transcription in that issue describing the bends and everything. I learned a ton from it, but, being mortal, I couldn't even come close. Amazing.

That is correct, I still have that Soundpage and it came with some examples and commentary from Jerry himself.

This isn't exactly the same, but it's close: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJS6oIyNhLOmsNk It it also appears on Jerry's album Telecasting.

Thanks! I agree, this is the best version. And we should say that the legendary Jerry Reed wrote the original (but everybody knows that by now).
