This video also shows just how amazing the band community at GL is. It's a post game show that starts like 10 minutes after the game ends and we still get a crowd so loud you hear them

I'm not gonna lie i remember this being about 100x harder than it looks to me know... then again I was only a freshman at the time and mimed well over half the show

This one was definitely a band class classic. Back in the 80's!! I was second trumpet, first chair and I rode that glory for the whole 4 years. Hearing this brings back memories, thanks...

This is such a great idea! Love the cascade of musicians adding in as the piece progresses. Bravo!

I couldn't hear the trombone 1's high Eb in the second strain and the tempo was a little slow but other than that it was good.

I noticed you have previously posted videos from Spartan Youth Wind symphony. Do you have any of this year's performance on Dec 7? If so could you please post them? Our son is in SYWS and I only got one video. Thank you! Wonderful performance from GLHS!
@GerhardtFamily10 жыл бұрын
We do not have any recording from SYWS this year as we do not have a student in that ensemble anymore. We did, however, have the opportunity to attend the concert as our son plays in the MSU Wind Symphony.
@rachelhoke722310 жыл бұрын
he does? That wind symphony was amazing! Is he currently a student at MSU? If so what year and what does he play?

Rachel Hoke Our son is a sophomore at MSU and plays percussion.

fantastic! My son is an incoming freshman next fall. He plans to audition for SMB and other MSU music ensembles. The wind symphony is premier - not sure if he can make the cut!

Further memories...don't know how clear they are. When we rehearsed this I believe we did Mass before Aztec Dance. This music is as good as it gets if you are a bandman. James Nielsen, if I remember his name right, one of the deans of american band master directed us for the reading clinic. Thanks for the memories MSU
@brianbaumgarn579511 жыл бұрын
Please forgive me. If I remember right this piece was around for a while. We did two more, one of which was essentially newly published and was going to be used as contest music in the 1968-69 school year. This is a wonderful band playing this.
@brianbaumgarn579511 жыл бұрын
Played this when it was essentially new music. 1968. Did two of the movements for a reading clinic put on for high school bands in Ohio. We did one brief run through with our director before playing it for everyone at clinic. At the end of Mass the trumpeter sitting next to me whispered "that is one bombastic sob", everyone in the band heard. The director looked at him and said "I agree, wholeheartedly, magnificent stuff!' Not much more to say.

Our school is playing this in May 2013 for the Fine Arts concert. :D I'm obsessed with LOTR and I was kind of spazzing when our teacher announced we would be playing this. Like, jumping up and down and screaming. *fangirl*

This is really a wonderful performance of this piece. This piece is not easy by any means and to have students watch the conductor carefully so that everything stays in time is incredible. Kudos to your ensemble!

Nice. I hope the students appreciate how good their ensemble is. I hope your clarinet player got some rest after the performance (1:20). Just teasing :) These are long days for everyone. This will be my reference as I try this with my band. What else did you program for this day?
