At youb next dentist visit, they can quickly numb, and clip the bottom of your tongue so you can move it better. It might be something to try. We did it for my son, who was considered tongue-tied, but spoke very normally.

nvm man i found my lisp but mines not so much tongue in the middle of my teeth. it feels more like the tip of my tongue touches the very bottom of my second big tooth and the rest of the right side of my tongue kinda touch those teeth too but my tongue never touches my left teeth or side if i say my “s”
@adriluna21412 жыл бұрын
you make it look and sound the exact same as a palatal lisp so i genuinely don’t know which one i am.
@skorpion77329 ай бұрын
AFAIK in a lateral lisp the tip of your tongue touches the alveolar ridge whereas in a palatal lisp the middle of your tongue touches the hard palate.

I know this is 4 years late but I need help. I've been told here and there that it sounds like I have a lisp. More specifically I've been told that it sounds like I have a retainer in. It's not something that anyone has ever mentioned to me apart from online. I never noticed myself to have a lisp, but since these remarks, I've been overly self conscious about myself and the way I sound. I'm not sure if it's just the way it comes across through a microphone or the way I produce certain sounds. A more recent remark on my supposed lisp has had me hyper focused on it. I've come to notice tht my S sound doesn’t sound like most other people's but also doesn't seem to be any of the types of lisps decribed anywhere that I could find. I've been trying EVERYTHING so hard and for so long yet I don't seem to be able to nail it down. Like even when using the techniques and it feeling proper, it still does not ever seem to be produced correctly. Especially when trying to but the bite down method to practice. The only way I can this with relative speed is by constant having my teeth slamming together which I've read everywhere is a no no. I have a very slight under bite and chipped front tooth, but I've seen people produce perfectly sounding S sounds who have it worse than I do. I've been leaning more towards a lateral lisp but my tongue literally does not stick out from the sides of my teeth so I have no idea. I've tried bringing this up to my mother and she insists that I don't have a lisp. I think she's wrong but it doesn't matter what I think I guess. Honestly just a meeting with a speach therapist to tell me that I don't have a lisp would skyrocket my self confidence. But for now it remains non existent. I just need like a proper identification of my potential lisp and whether I should seek additional help. If you see this, is there something you recommend I should do?

I have the same thing. I can't relate to any of the lisp types but I have one. It doesn't sound bad on my phone recorder but on Whatsapp voice recorder it is extremely noticable. My S sounds fine when my teeth are closed, but it's not realistic to keep my jaw shut while talking. I too have a bit of an underbite and my upper front teeth are a bit forward, so it's probably related.

So it's merely because they put their tongue on the roof of their mouth while speaking? I've known many kids growing up that had this particular speech impediment....and never understood why they can't just lower their tongue while speaking.
@ryley17463 жыл бұрын
It’s harder than you think lol. It feels almost like you don’t have the muscles to lower the tongue and do it correctly, there is no way to do it.
