My big question with YNAB, and something I struggle to wrap my head around, is it seems like you're kind of creating these pockets of money where things will go eventually, for example you have $500 going towards "car maintenance." My question is, does this money still just sit in your checking account? Or do you somehow have multiple saving accounts for each of these categories? If it is all in just your checking, then I imagine your checking account could easily be in the multiple thousands of dollars, so how do you track how all of that money is divided up? Something about having it all divided up here in YNAB but not having it divided up in my bank account just makes it hard for me to reconcile the two.

Hi Chloe, what I normally do with amounts I fully pay but will get reimbursed is have two scheduled transactions to the same category: 1. The full amount that is leaving my bank account / credit card 2. The amount I will get reimbursed as an inflow Basically what this does is that it will even out the amount you owe / should budget for. For example: $2000 rent split 50/50 Transaction 1: $2000 for rent as an outflow to the landlord on 1/1 Transaction 2: $1000 to rent as an inflow from partner on 1/1 On the budget, it will say $1000 underfunded which is what I then fund. I only clear the inflow transaction when I have the money Hope that makes sense

YNAB is fantastic for helping you gain insights that drive your momentum forward. Progress is progress is progress. I love the fact that you have videos where you can see the difference between the early part of the year and now. You are doing fantastic! You are more than 15%towards a month ahead goal. Probably more than that, but my brain is way too tired for math. Great job!

We still struggle with the "managing things in the future" part of it all! It gets easier and easier with practice but it has never gotten more fun 🤣

This is a great start. When it’s the beginning of the month, I’ll usually just borrow from a category that I know I’m going to refill anyways just so I don’t have to see yellow til payday lol. If I already filled the category for the month, then I’ll snooze it. The beginning of the month is always so confusing (not a month ahead yet) so I just cover everything with the first check 😊
