I used to use that Florida weave but the deer ran through it a few times. Dogs chased rabbits through it a few times. Finally I got tired of a tangled mess of strings and broken plants every time an animal spooked and just bought a free Standing fence panel. It takes three stakes to hold it up each spring but it's no trouble.

When I plant lettuce or carrots I wet them real good after I plant the seeds then cover with free sheets of cardboard weighted down with a few stones bricks or somethings. Then I just water over the soggy cardboard to make sure it stays wet on those seeds. If they sprout before I remove the cardboard it's still perfectly fine because they live off cotyledons anyway for a couple of weeks after they sprout. I remove cardboard once they are all germinated. Really saves having to water and you get the most excellent germination possible. Also hides the newly sprouted seeds from birds until they are bitter.

I bought one. I have had it a little over two months now. Before I was using a couple of old Planet Junior wheel hoes that are probably between 70 and 80 years old. The Valley Oak is more robustly built. I think I will have to stay around another 150 years to wear it out.

I wish I had discovered the Valley Oak before I purchased the Hoss. I like the adjustability with no wrenches and I especially like the way the attachments come on and off. Maybe next year.

using an ordinary fork with long handle is far easier than this broad fork as you seem to be short of breath even digging less than a sq meter. Also these cost over two hundred bucks and after half a dozen digs it will just sit in your tool shed.

Thanks for your comment, but I beg to differ. A broadfork does take work, but I wasn't short of breath. Spading forks also take work, and they dig significantly less wide and less deep per pass. You can certainly prepare a garden quite well with a spading fork if money is tight. Most of our customers use their broadfork season after season, and they keep the tool, even though they could get a full refund if not satisfied for any reason, and for six months.

This is a GREAT tool but if you are looking for the next level of Broadfork Engineering check the T2 Talon by Treadlite! Available for shipment 1-15-18 . www.treadlitebroadforks.com

The Valley Oak broadfork is equally strong, yet lighter in weight due to the lightweight super strong alloy handles. The square treadbar is more comfortable to use than their round treadbar. Meadow Creature make a very good broadfork, but in my opinion the Valley Oak is better. David

Can you give me two great reasons to purchase your broadfork over your competitor....meadow creature broadfork? I'm buying one very soon, and hoping to get the best of the best. Thank you

Do you still use wooden handles? How does this one compare to Meadow Creature's broadfork? I'm looking to buy one soon and quality matters. Thank you
@Valleyoaktool
@Valleyoaktool 8 жыл бұрын
+savvyvenus We no longer use wooden handles. We use chromoly steel handles, which are stronger and considerably lighter than the handles on the meadow creature broadfork. You won't find a better broadfork. Guaranteed. Feel free to call with questions, or if you want to order on the phone. Thanks, David

For a good tool $300 as they priced is common. $500 for the package. A good broadfork, seeder, or scythe are often $300. With each you are set for life and gardens are actually managed more easily.

An all-too-rare example of a tool made right! You will never find this for sale at Walmart. You will also never need to buy more than one in your lifetime. I have had mine for several years. Everybody wants to borrow it, and most of the time I let them, and it always comes back fine. This tool will outlast everything you have and everyone you love.

You will only need to buy this tool once. It will be the best investment you've ever made--I use mine all the time, both for new plantings and for fluffing up old beds.

I have a Valley Oak Broadfork and it works great in my stony Catskill mountain soil. It is hard work over a few hours, for sure, and you need many hours to work out a large garden bed, one that I had rototilled for last year's garden season. However, the tap rooted weeds that came back ferociously after last year's rototill have disappeared and the only things I'm weeding are the ones from seed which are easy peezy. Very durable fork.
