considering Mayumi Tanaka (luffy’s VA) said she will be retiring in a few years and is starting to look for the replacement of Luffy; she won’t be voicing him in the remake. if we are lucky, she will be voicing him until the end of the Toei adaptation. it would be better to cast younger people (20s-30s) because this will go on for a while. rather than casting the old cast with the risk of having to recast them anyway half way through. also i think it’s time for something new. the current cast is great and iconic sure, but after 25 years of voicing those characters, you can start to hear their age. the 56 year old voice actor for 20 year old Zoro is kinda jarring at times. and Franky’s VA seems to have lost his power.

this manga is one hell of a roller coaster, which... I dragged a friend of mine to watch the anime first before getting into the manga - oh I feel bad on how he will suffer lol but... due to I live in the city, and the lack of telescope, I can't see Phos colored shooting star q-q and... I am just glad phos is finally happy with his rock buddies

I'd say this video does do a decent job and trying to spread the word of Houseki no Kuni to an audience that might not know about it so glad to see that! In regards to the Hiatus section, it feels a little misleading when you say "a lot" of breaks when she did not take her first break for a whole 6 years of publication and then the final "arc" starting in 2023 does not make any sense to me. But yes I do agree with you the ending is filled with hope and it did make me happy as well.

3:34 You should use they/them for the gems (Ichikawa preference in English), their japanese honorific doesn't translate to he/him, varying from: - Ore ( 俺 ) which is a masculine, Super Tough way to refer to yourself, Ore is also a very archaic and old-fashioned pronoun, so it's fitting for older gems to be using it to refer to themselves. - Boku ( 僕 ) which is a masculine but humble, almost boyish way to refer to yourself - Watashi ( 私 ) which is proper and gender neutral, though used by men to be formal, and women as the regular pronoun - Atashi (あたし) which is a feminine, sometimes cutesy way to refer to yourself. Like; Sensei uses the neutral and formal 'Watashi' along with 6 gems (Antarcticite, Hemimorphite, Peridot, Jade, Rutile, and Red Beryl sometimes) 6 gems (Cinnabar, Neptunite, Yellow Diamond, Morganite, Sphene, and Padparadscha) use the super tough and manly/archaic 'Ore' The only two that haven't used a pronoun are Obsidian and Morganite 2. Everyone else, including Phos uses 'Boku' . When referring to each other, the gems usually default to using words such as 'brother' (especially between the diamonds) and the equivalent of 'him' ( 彼 ) though it should be noted that 'him' in this case would usually be taking the place of saying something more blatant like 'that boy' or 'that girl' which would be more common. This is also not even going into their speech patterns, which, while I'm not really fluent enough in Japanese to pick up on, I have seen translators note that Euclase, while using 'boku' to refer to themself, speaks in a very gentle, feminine way in Japanese (short version: saying "のかしら" in certain ways in their sentences.) So from there, a lot of translators simply blanket-translate all of the gems as always using he/him. Even though there are still gems (including Sensei!) that do not go by an explicitly masculine pronoun, or Alexandrite, who refers to themself in a feminine way, or Euclase who uses 'boku' but ends their sentences with "のかしら" on occasion which is pretty blatantly mixing feminine and masculine speech patterns, and probably others that I haven't been able to notice as easily. Now: In terms of authorial intent, Ichikawa has said before that the gems appearing feminine but speaking more boyishly (but not completely male) is meant to sort of be a balancing act, so that the overall impression to the Japanese audience is that the gems are gender neutral. This doesn't work as cleanly in English, since we only have gendered third person pronouns. In terms of English translation, Ichikawa asked for the gems to be referred to neutrally, as they/them. I personally choose to respect that, and I like the idea that the gems don't really go along with the human concept of gender. They are a fictional crystal people that photosynthesize and that evolved from the bones of humans, and their only connection to the deceased humanity for so long has been an adamantine buddhist prayer machine. They probably have more use for paper than for gender roles.

I mean it was not a bad video but I suppose communitys reaction to Ichikawas break in the video is making it look more negatively than it was (almost wasn't) + meantoning manga abt anime separately seems worthless if we talk abt the ending and overall I learned almost nothig new... I meant this would be too shallow even for ppl ot aware abt HNS just cause mentioning info shattered so u cannot see all the reasons why it is even comparable to AOT not mentioning that the comparison to Eren is right but if we spek abt ending it seems a bit misleading 6/10, not bad but HNK already has many better videos talking abt specific aspects of both manga and anime or more dedicated to mainstream publicum

The author's hiatus remember's of Kurumada's from Saint Seiya... His manga (Next Dimension) will finish serialization this june with only 118 chapters within 15 volumes... and you know how much time he is spending drawing Next Dimension? 13 years! And ironically, he only cared to do this manga in particular because he didnt liked the movie that was lauched "Saint Seiya Overture" back in 2004, which was supposed to be 1 in 3 parts counting the adventures of saints of Athena against the olympean gods after the battle against Poseidon and Hades previously. Spoilers ahead. The movie ended in something like... the humanity was all doomed by a single light of Apollon's power, Seiya failed to contain his power, being destroyed his armor, dying every human... lefting only the protagonist Seiya and Athena alive (and nude) but i assume it was their souls, as they had no genitalias at all. In the last moment, Seiya tried again, one last time, to hit the god, with his cosmos (similar to ki - chakra - mana) reaching infinite. You dont see the result after his power was unleased. In the ending scene, the followed phrase is shown "When human heart surprasses the divine beings... what the gods will forgive...and what they will punish?" then shows up "both Seiya and Athena talking as if they never met each other... its supposed that they were brainwashed and the humanity's doom reversed" its confusing. If you wait more in the credits, shows up seiya with a new and unique armor design, dealing with his concentrated power against Apollon... and it does only a cut in his face... then Seiya dies. The movie was more about lore than battles, about human's doings and free will, but it was ahead of its time. People with "shonen spirit" thought as boring and it wasnt received well in the cinemas in the west, as people used other ways to see it already (you never read this)

Ichikawa has actually done a bunch of design work for GameFreak on the Pokemon series with both Sword and Shield and Scarlet and Violet, and just recently even has done artwork for a few Pokemon cards. Her hiatuses actually line up a few times with the game’s development so I think that’s a huge factor in her lengthy breaks.

I have many wishes about that, a exploration of all the gems hobbies, how they interacted with Phos across the history, and basically more slice of life, I don't think they should been added, the pacing of the story was something very important to maintain to create the feeling we have when reading HNK, but man I would loved to just see more of their daily interactions.

If someone wants to disagree, they can, but I believe that HNK is one of the best, if not *the* best, story humanity has ever created. It's a story that explores the concepts of belonging, betrayal, a fading identity, desperation, the passage of time, and what it means to be human within it's story. At the same time, the art takes a unique look at the beauty of the human form in masculine, feminine, and non-gender-conforming subjects, and it does it with some of the most amazing chiaroscuro that I've ever seen. It's a great example of how deeply someone can contemplate everyday experiences, and it shows how those experiences are actually much more complex than we usually realize.
@kazumihiga77924 ай бұрын
You’re not alone thinking that. I also believe is one of the best, or at least in any visual media. The portrait of many unique aspects of humanity, both bad or good with one of the most interesting plots, with much emotional charge. So many people feeling identified with its character and with the capability to make reflect on oneself. More than a history, a life changing experience to witness, and I’m so happy to see so many people feel the same way. 🙏

I also remember a video of a KZbinr where the title said something like “Humanity as Chairs” as an analysis of chairs within Houseki no Kuni, and how it showed how human Phos was compared to the rest. I felt so enthralled and it feels so damn amusing too. Something as simple as sitting in a chair, that we take for granted, isn’t as common as many people believe.
@kazumihiga7792Ай бұрын
@@Someone-dj6kk Riza the creator and with that video you can see and even overanalyze and see how the author place so much detail in his artwork. Phos had 3 times de density of an human, and the planet in which the storyline developed had the third of the normal gravitational force making Phos, even in weight, the closest to an human being. Just incredible
