This film is 20 years old this year (2021), but what if you could go back in time and take all those hours of pain and darkness and replace them with something better?

I'm ashamed to admit, but the first time I saw Donnie Darko I didn't "get" it. I expected a literal explanation to the finale. But I missed the point. I came back to it a few years later and began to absorb into this world of Donnie. Suddenly, it didn't need to make total sense. That is the beauty of it. And now I recognise it for the extraordinary film it is. The Catcher in the Rye of a new generation.

Fun fact: If it wasn’t for Drew Barrymore this movie would have never happened. It was suppose to be made through a different production company, but they just didn’t get it and thought no one else would either so they dropped it. She saw the value of this film and produced it herself.

There are so many movies, which, were under appreciated in 'their' time, but, became 'cult' favorites, like, some of my all-time favorites: A Clockwork Orange; Pi (π); Reservoir Dogs; Trainspotting; Natural Born Killers; Taxi Driver; Dark City; The Doom Generation; LIE; Metropolis; Perfect Skin; Kill Bill (I & II); Blade Runner (2019 & 2049); and Barbarella -- which, casted shame on the, 'Fonda' family name and was considered traitorous, during the Vietnam War (1968), with its treacherous, mad scientist - Durand Durand (later on becoming the moniker of the 80's band - Durand Durand). And, essentially anything, made by Quentin Tarantino (an absolute Genius) and the list goes, on-and-on. Each successive generation, has, its own take on 'cult-fiction' movies, depending on the cultural-norms, customs, and even political climate. As well, with these films, they have also launched the careers, of some of, the most famous actor's in Hollywood. By the way, it's a young 'James Duval', that's inside that ubiquitous "Bunny-Man" rabbit suit, from "Donnie Darko". The men reading this comment, should be warned about the ending of "The Doom Generation" as James, gets his genitals chopped off with hedge clippers. James began as a classically trained, Concert Pianist, but, instead he went ahead, to, contribute in over 145 movie projects. This Includes, "Independence Day" and also acted, in the groundbreaking, short film, "The Broken Movie". 'Broken" (commonly called) is Trent Reznor's underground, 'cult- like' horror mini movie (circa:1992-93) in itself: Apart from TV, Radio, KZbin, and the Internet, this is considered, forbidden-fruit, locked away from any public viewing. Reznor, transformed 5 out of 8 track songs, into music videos in-order to market, NIN's EP album, Broken. These psychologically disturbing music video's - all wrapped-up as one single, 'cult- like' horror psycho-drama mini-movie series. Far, to many parts of movie are much to graphic for the Internet to provide, anyone, easy access. You'll only get the censored versions. I wonder if anyone could find "Broken" in its uncensored entirety for me? Sorry, for the long reading comment. It's an old habit from my book and magazine publishing days. I hope you learned something new and maybe expanded your mind to toward new possibilities; yet, to be explored. Cheers ----
