I m desperate to find square or semi-round wire here in Europe. We have lots of round but rarely any other shapes. What now ???? Can I change the shape of the wire diameter somehow ?
@OxanaCrafts16 сағат бұрын
I am in Australia and we have the same situation here, I order from RioGrade who are in US. As long as the order is not too heavy the international shipping is reasonable. You can use coupon code OXANA2025 to get $20 off your shipping

I love love love your work and your tutorials. You mentioned in one of your tutorials that you could oxidize the copper or silver before using it to wrap a stone rather than after its wrapped. I was wondering if you could demonstrate how to to do that. And how do you determine in advance how much weaving wire to oxidize for the project. I like the oxidized look, but not what it does to the stone. Thanks so much.
@OxanaCrafts16 сағат бұрын
So you are trying to avoid dipping the stone into the liver of sulfur solution? Most stones are too hard to absorb it and are not effected, but some stones can be soft and porous and can change color. When I have a stone like that, I do not lock it in all the way and oxidize without the stone and then add the stone back in afterwards. But of course some designs it is hard to do that with. If you wanted to oxidize the wire before weaving, I'd measure out just a whole bunch of weaving wire, coil it, and then oxidize it. As it is hard to know how much weaving wire will be needed, I'd overestimate it and then just have some left over to use in future projects.

@ Thank you so much. I have a druzy stone that I don’t want to expose to the LoS. I will definitely try your suggestion. And one last question about that - Should I polish off the oxidization before or after I wrap and weave the wire on the stone? It seems to me if I clean it before I wrap it onto the stone, it won’t give the same effect as cleaning it after. What do you think?

To save some time you can get a drill and put the two ends of wire into the chuck and tighten it down then engage the trigger. You may have to use a bolt in the center to fill the space if it won’t clamp down tighten enough on the wire. It’ll twist it in seconds.

I am just starting to go to craft shows but mostly wire wrapping with plated copper wire. I would like to upgrade to sterling silver and have visited your favorite site at Rio Grande. I would like to know how you buy your spools of sterling silver from them because their site shows by the ounce and I am unsure as to how many ounces I would need for the various gauges and pieces I make. If you don’t want to advise me here, please tell me how we can communicate.

I am 100% green when it comes to wire wrapping but I’ve watched so many tutorials that I start to believe I can do them all 😂. This tutorial however, is by far the best one I’ve watched when it comes to speed at which you show your wire, the gentle speaking and fully communication with the audience and I like that I seen 100% on the camera. So many times tutorials will have portions that “miraculously” change from editing or not completely viewable. I will follow you religiously in hopes of finding more tutorials like this one. (I cross stitch and when you make a mistake and have to take it out we call it “frogging” and you have to “rip it, rip it, rip it”, out. 🐸😂 I can’t wait to make a couple of these for door prizes for the ladies. Thank you so very much!
