It's so hard for Riker to pump the can because the white plastic valve in the top of the can is only depressed by air pressure. His weight barely opens the valve, then has to fill the can. If you trim the bottom of the tire valve stem such that it still seals against the can, but the metal part depresses the white plastic stem in the can enough to open, air flows easier, and you only have to pump the actual pressure needed in the can. Those of us with older ears often find Any background sounds, including music we'd normally like, interferes with understanding speech. Jus' sayn'.

The tension ring is supposed to be on the inside of all the tabs. And I recommend a rag or rubber mat between your shiny smooth hubcap/cover and the rough concrete ..... Where I live, ony 2x zip-ties will keep those covers on. The potholes flex & bend the rims and you lose the wheel covers if they're not tied on.

Great comment by Max, and I never thought about faulty valve stems, and I have a leak in 2 tires, that lose about 6 PSI per day, so I'll have to get all things checked. Great comment to give me some thought to properly fix it. Aged tires as you say, can also cause a leak, and then you have to replace the tire(s) as this happened to me before. I can't see soapy water working as shown in this video, but I guess it's possible ?

Very useful and precisely my problem whilst reversing a door.I tried packing each of the hinges but not both because the gap on the latch side is very close. I foolishly did not check for square on door or frame before starting work because it was against the clock with limited tools at my daughter's apartment. Interestingly when hung the original way the 4 screw (UK) hinges had been replaced with rising butts so I think there may have been a squaring issue already. You have restored my sagging self confidence thanks but would suggest the volume for the video should be louder.

I noticed that there was no inspection of the tire, the valve stem or the rim. Normally, your tire shouldn't lose any air pressure even when it's cold. I will put forth the suggestion that there was something else going on that was not covered. Here's a list of things to check: - A bad valve stem. It could be old & non-flexible thus not sealing at its base. - The stem could have hairline cracks in it and allow air to escape during vehicle ops. - Is the valve stem the correct size for the hole in the rim?!? - The valve in the stem itself may be bad thus air is leaking by it... possibly only during vehicle ops! - An obvious minor puncture in the tire that has gone unnoticed. - Road debris may be imbedded in the tire... and it's VERY small thus is hard to see. - Checking & cracking in the tire due to age thus pressure slowly bleeds off - perhaps only when the vehicle is moving. - Damage to the mating lip of the tire that cannot be seen when the tire is mounted... yet air escapes during vehicle ops due to flexing of the tire. - An unnoticed rim defect. The rim itself may have a hairline crack... or have corrosion issues. Only a careful inspection may reveal the issue. - The rim may be warped or worn at the lip thus allowing air to escape. - Is the tire an appropriate and matching size for the rim? - Is the car being driven at a level beyond the limits of the tire? - Is the vehicle being loaded with excessive weight? - Is a friend, family member, co-worker or neighbor pranking you? - Is a friend, family member, co-worker or neighbor intentionally sabotaging you? The bottom line here is that there is always a root cause as to why a tire loses pressure - you've got to find it. Some folks may claim that they pulled the tire and rim off the car and used a dunk tank to see where air was escaping but found nothing. Well guess what? That may be true but you still have a leak and the reason why is because the conditions aren't correct for air to escape. In other words, the tire and rim has to be mounted on the car for the condition to be in existence. Sometimes a tire can be on a car for a week or weeks... and not lose pressure until the car is driven! Other times, you simply have to dismount the tire to fully inspect the tire inside and out as well as the rim and the valve stem to discover the root cause. If there is any doubt whatsoever about any of the three things (meaning a sound & serviceable rim, tire & stem) then replace them. Injecting a soap & alcohol mix may stop a leak temporarily just like a product such as tire slime might. However, it would be wise to conduct a full inspection because something serious could be going on. One of the most common problems is aged valve stems and/or tires... which definitely shouldn't be on the road in the first place. Blowouts can kill - don't roll with parts that shouldn't be on the road. Best wishes! 👍🏻🚘👨🏻‍🔧 - Max Giganteum

You needed to fully examine both sides of the rotor at the friction surface for wear by default. You also check the bearings to make sure they're servicable as well as check the rotor for warpage and total runout. The reason there was more wear on one side as opposed to the other is most likely due to the caliper not freely floating thus there was more pressure applied to the inside of the rotor. Your solution may have been as simple as cleaning up and lubing the slider for the caliper and to machine the rotor after cleaning the sediment out of the vanes. Of course, you do both sides of the vehicle when servicing the brakes. Best wishes! 👍🏻👨🏻‍🔧🇺🇲 - Max Giganteum

Your concerns are well made Max, and should be considered whenever examining or changing out the pads and rotors. Please do keep in mind, that the direction of the above tutorial was to bring attention to the accelerated wear that occurs on the backside of the Rotor. The back (inner) side of the Rotor is exposed to a much different road condition then the front (outer) side. Trappings of road debri, such as salt, snow, moisture and dirt will accumulate at the rear of a wheel well, which suggests a different environment than the outer side of the rotor. In closing, the tutorials intent was to bring attention to the accelerated wear on the Rotors inner side and the reason for it. Your thoughts are always appreciated and welcomed, thank you Max : o )

A GOOD TRY,.Its certainly a lack of friction where the tabs contact the inside wheel rim. A three of pieces of waterproof emery paper overhanging the small rounded tabs, glued into place using plastic cement or similar, plus your fix will do it. The emery paper is usually enough to make it thicker to hold it in place better also. The wire adjustment might not be needed. After all its mainly a lack of friction on the inside rim that causes it to rotate and fall off. All tabs could be treated that way!
@brianarsenault9281
@brianarsenault9281 Жыл бұрын
John I'd like to correct you to your following remark, " it's a good try, " my tutorial is a good solution to a problem that exists with most hubcaps. The tutorial helps prevent hub caps from coming off. Your idea of glueing on waterproof emery is another possible solution. I personally wouldn't remove the ring, as the plastic tabs age they will eventually become brittle and break, making it imperative to keep the ring aligned for support. Thank you for your thoughts.
