Christian Ganis, 1, Isaiah Ganis, 3, and MaKayla Ganis, 2, died the night of Aug. 7, 2003, in a house fire that grew into an inferno while their mother smoked a cigarette at a neighbor's house. Jack was a lifetime horse racing enthusiast, owner, and breeder of Thoroughbreds under Lucky Trio Stable for over 50 years and member of Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Trainers Association, Kentucky Derby Museum, and Churchill Downs Turf Club. He loved flying his private airplane, fishing on the dock, playing tennis, gardening, dancing, Jack was a tenacious seeker of knowledge. He was quick to listen and slow to speak. Unfortunately, it was the last time. She loved swinging, Dora the Explorer, her dog Yeller, wearing her clothes backwards and picking up rocks of all shapes and sizes. She would even save gravel from the church parking lot and keep it in her purse. Her favorite saying was from the McDonald's commercial - "I'm lovin' it!" Her favorite color was pink and "Jesus Loves Me" was her favorite song. May 2, 2006, when a three-year-old Sami accidentally rode her tricycle into the family pool.

Katherine Cross died, according to the Seminole County News, from "a criminal operation," performed by Dr. A. H. Yates, and his assistant, a schoolteacher by the name of Mr. Fredrick O'Neal. It is generally considered that the "criminal operation" must have been an abortion, due to the location and time period. Katherine Cross was the second of two girls that Dr. A. H. Yates was charged for murdering; the first was Elise Stone, who was admitted to Dr. Yates office on August 15th, 1917, where she remained there for four days, eventually to be released home, where she died. Her death certificate listed the cause of death as "congestive chill." A few suspicious citizens filed a complaint with County Attorney A.G. Nichols, who ordered an autopsy on Miss Stone, which resulted in her death certificate also listing the cause of death as "criminal operation." Her disappearance became national news and spawned a number of books, songs, and numerous theories. Only two years old, she was last seen on Father's Day 2008, although she wasn't reported missing until a month later on July 15. Her disappearance captivated a nation, making months of national media coverage after her mother, Casey, spun a tale full of inconsistencies after she claimed the Nanny abducted the toddler. Updates on the missing girl, as well as her mom, were reported nightly throughout the summer and into the autumn on several news outlets, but all leads were proved false over a period of nearly six months, as her mother would be jailed, released, and re-jailed on various charges. In October, Casey was indicted for first-degree murder. Although Caylee still had not been located, the forensic evidence was suggesting that she was deceased from the very beginning. On December 11, 2008, the remains of Caylee were found less than a mile from the family home. The coroner ruled the death a homicide, but was unable to determine the cause. On July 5, 2011, a jury found Casey Anthony not guilty of murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated manslaughter. She was convicted of four misdemeanor counts of providing false information to police. With credit for time served and good behavior, she was released from custody on July 17, 2011.
