Man I really need you to understand how big a dork I am for exhaust system design to adequately applaud what an awesome job you did here. You’ve got one of those brains so clever that it sometimes worries people close to you, don’t you? This. Is. Awesome. @@crustyfab I like the idea, but just thinking with the object directly in front of filter, it'll be impossible to not get filter coated. Air wont penetrate through dried paint obviously. I may try it with a larger spraying area somehow where object isn't in line with filter. Thanks for info!

The part that grabbed my eye was using the old storage (Clear plastic for it. The part I wish people could come up with is a small ducked system for paintings. Many years ago (I'm older than dirt) I scored a free "Squirrel Cage", 5 inch diameter 3 feel long (used at the base of a tanning bed to cool it down) I mounted it under a wood easel at the base, used filter material cut to size. It pulled all the paint fumes and dust out of the way. Sadly it's also old (LOL) and I'd love to fine a place to buy such a fan ... no luck so far. I did enjoy your thoughts and project.

Thanks for the kind words! Sounds like you had the setup just the way you liked! It’s frustrating when you can’t find replacements - I’m an old fart myself and I’ve saved just about every nut, bolt, etc. and find a use for a lot of it. Good luck on your re-work!!

@@crustyfab I was given a portable spray booth to test for an Australian importer. About $140 (Aus) ... my retirement is the US VA (Vietnam). If you were doing something small like fishing lures or small models.. it works, but with your idea, you could easily expand the work station size ... again, very nice idea. Yes, the fan is mounted to the bottom of the second tote so the exhaust passes out the bottom.

Thanks for this video. Good job! I too noticed the BIG difference in how quiet the Thumb was over the Foredom. I kept thinking you didn't turn on the Thumb and yet you did. I just bought the Strong 202 from Treeline USA. Haven't used it a lot since it just came a day ago but so far it is a really nice unit! PJ's KZbin video sold me on that unit. I had actually already ordered the Marathon III off Amazon but cancelled that and got the one from Treeline. :)

Hi Chris - here is the parts list. I have detailed instructions with photos, but can’t see a way post them on KZbin - I’m hoping to solve that. In the meantime, I used a flexible “foil” dryer exhaust hose which comes off the back and I direct out the window. Hope this helps!

All parts were purchased at either Home Depot or Lowe’s, and honestly, it took more time to find the right parts than to build it! Total Cost $92 Parts - Plastic tub #1 and lid - This will make up the air chamber and where the fan will be mounted. - Hefty 34 quart * 23.98 w x 16.18 d x 6.6 h * $9.98 - Plastic tub #2 and lid - This will make up the painting chamber itself. The bottom will be cut out and will be attached to the lid of tub #1 and will house the filter. - Hefty 66 quart - 23.98 w x 16.18 d x 13.05 h - $11.98 - Bathroom Ceiling Fan - 50 CFM - $14.97 - Furnace filter - 14x20 - $11.97 - Electric replacement cord - 14 Gauge - I did not install switch, but wish I had - $14.68 - Exhaust tubing - 3”x8’ flex foil (a bit too fragile, try to find in plastic) - Screws, bolts, insulting tape, clamps etc. - $16.30

Hi Bob - thanks for your interest! Good luck on your build, let me know how you make out, improvements, etc. I’ve been using this now for a couple of years and it’s still working out nicely. I added a strip of LED lights and I would suggest incorporating an on/off switch. Here are my notes. I have detailed instructions with photos but not sure if that can be loaded here.
