No thanks, glad you like them but I’m not a fan of Brittany’s. I hunt in Maine and Montana every year and love upland hunting just not with them. To each his own

Beautiful camera work. I hunt over a French Brittany which is very close to the american Brittany, which usually stays within 60 yds of me. Love to watch them hunt noise high like that it is very exciting, also very nice retrieves. Thanks for posting.

that is the distinction between short and long quest ... most of the continental breeds are short while the pointer is the absolute opposite. here in the yukon better to have a short range one due to the bears around ...

Im sad to say ive never had one trained to hunt. Had one as a kid that would bring home birds, woodchcucks, chickens, snakes, fish. You name it. And she was as loving as can be. Next one didnt have a aggressive bone in her body and shes 17 right now. A miracle. My uncle used to breed them for hunters, my next one i will train for pheasant, the dog needs that kinda activity, its a same to have one and not hunt

I'm convinced - Sold! What are the steps to keep them to "hold" after birds flush? Open chokes, low flying quail and a $$$$$ GSP that aint mine in hot pursuit makes me nervous.
@greekcro Жыл бұрын
Hi pal, every dog is different, most retrieving breeds have a soft mouth from pups. To teach the hold command I started by NOT taking a retrieved item/toy/dummy from the dog as soon as he retrieves it. I then say hold, hold, hold and progressively leave it longer in their mouth before I say give. Furthermore, I would get the dog to hold any day-to-day items i.e. a hat, my keys etc, I would get him to walk with me whilst holding these items. Thus you can transfer this skill in the field with shot game.

@4:15 Why are you pointing your gun at your Brittany. Never point your gun at your dog. P.S. Nice video excluding how you could of killed your dog.

Thanks for the comment. The firearm is cocked open, without shells and on my shoulder. We do things right down under.

@@greekcro Sorry, I got emotional. It's good practice that a gun is never pointed at humans or your dogs even if your gun is cocked or un-cocked. You don't want to let your guard down that one time you think it's unloaded but it's not.

I am impressed with the way you stop your dog after the bird flew from the ground. I have seen many videos with Bretons chasing game after the shot. Especially in French videos about the breed, field trials and hunting. Nobody seemed to care about the dog running after the game when it flew. The dog can easily get shot if it does not stand still .
@greekcro Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Safety and control walk hand in hand. It allows you to focus on the target without fear your dog will run in front of the gun. I find there's more Gentry in hunting this way. Happy Hunting

The dog can easily get shot if the hunter is not paying attention and/or is shooting low at the ground. I would not bet my dogs life on her ability of staying still -

@greekcro2 жыл бұрын
Hi R Sevon, not in particular general obedience. Find a good mentor if you can. Dog has to learn how you want to hunt not the other way round. Try not to yell all the time and hunt calmly and effortlessly with your dog. That's the game. And when it comes together. Its Poetry. Happy Hunting!

Only another dog owner that hunts and works his dog can truly appreciate your videos. there is nothing like watching your dog scent and then work the bird. You manage to catch the whole process over and over again. Thanks for you terrific videos. '
