Thanks for the review. It is a perfect book for beginners for the reason you said - it is MSA and avoids dialect (although it is mostly Egypt focused) - as well as it not being too formal, as in it doesn't use case endings (although it teaches them) which is more for intermediate learners who want to read literature or the Qur'an. Another beginner's book, Ahlan wa Sahlan, uses case endings and I found that too hard as a beginner. As you mentioned, you only get out of it what you put in. As I am self learning, I have studied it slowly 30 minutes a day, with revision of the week's learning on the weekend, and a second revision four weeks after that (I know it's hard to find time, I have kids too, but let's face it, we're on youtube, so we have time). My only criticism is the videos. Other than Mahmoud, who is I'm guessing one of the authors, the other people in the videos (who are native Arabic speakers) at times mumble and make mistakes which makes it harder to follow what they are saying in places. Finally, this book has a sequel, Mastering Arabic 2, which I'll be going to once I've finished Mastering Arabic 1. They also have made a very good book on Egytian dialect - Colloquial Egyptian Arabic - which I highly recommend if, like me, you are learning MSA and dialect together.

She didn’t say it was beginners level. It’s Arabic in a nutshell. Obviously, this is for intermediate and advanced learners.

I'm glad to have found this video, normally when I google booknames + review, I get an amazon page with one person complaining about the condition it was shipped in. Thanks for being clear about the ups and downs of the book and tapes, I've been hunting for Arabic resources, and being on quite a tight budget I've been worried I'm going to buy a substandard resource. I appreciate this a lot!

جزاك الله خيرا. Let’s all make afirm resolution with the help of الله to learn the Arabic language and taste the sweetness of the Qur’an. It’s amazing once we start to see the pearls. I am in the process of compiling the Qur’anic vocabulary categorized by grammatical verticals in excel for anyone who is learning Arabic Grammar and wants to understand the Qur’an. Anyone who wants to make use of this please email me at ‘[email protected]’ or ‘[email protected]’ and I will forward you a copy إن شاء الله. I started this as a means to remember and learn the vocabulary I came across in my study of Arabic in the past 5 years, which then turned into the documentation of the vocabulary of the Qur’an, الحمد لله. Please include the entire Ummah in your Dua’s. May ALLAH (SWT) guide us and unite us. The Arabic language does play a key role in the Ummah’s unity, الحمد لله. What a miracle and what a language! الله is great! Please pass on the word to the entire Ummah. A link to a short video of the Arabic Qur’anic vocabulary sheet: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHq5Zmqkibmhibs
